In another terrifying instance of sexual violence against women, a woman was gang-raped on a train. The perpetrators were the staff of Zakaria Express, all of whom got away.
According to media reports, based on her medical state she was found to have been raped. Karachi City Station Police registered a case for the crime of sexual violence.
A private sector train, the Zakaria Express train runs from Multan to Karachi. The woman was traveling from Karachi to visit her in-laws, who live in Muzaffargarh. Her husband divorced her a month and a half ago. She reached Muzaffargarh on May 26th to visit her children. Then, she left for Karachi via Zakaria Express, but did not get a ticket at the station.
Details of the Crime
She started her journey back by getting an economy class ticket on the train. When the train left Rohri, the ticket checker of Tunji division, Zahid told the woman that he could get her a berth in an air-conditioned coach. He then introduced her to Aqib the in-charge and took her to a compartment in the AC coach.
After some time, Zahid came to the compartment and sexually assaulted the woman. The woman tried to get into the economy bogie from there and threatened to kill him and hurled abuses.
After that, the in-charge Aqib came in and he also raped the woman. After he left, another person came into the compartment and he also raped the woman.
Upon arriving at Karachi station, the victim informed the police about the incident and Railway Police Station Karachi City registered a case against the accused. The railway administration said that the train crew involved in the incident has escaped.
Medical Confirmation The Woman was Gang-Raped
Police said that the victim was taken to Jinnah Hospital for medical treatment. The initial medical report proved the woman was raped. However, a detailed medico-legal report is awaited.
According to police, an investigation is underway since the woman gave a statement. The train management has been contacted for the arrest of the accused while the investigation team will go to Multan for the arrest of the accused.
