Zaid AliT Is Calling Out People Over Their “Gora Complex” in New Video

The popular YouTuber shows us the mirror.

Zaid AliT and Yumna

Pakistani-Canadian YouTuber Zaid AliT just called out people who can’t get over their insecurities in a new video. He chose to focus on a particularly important one – the ‘Gora complex‘.

He also pointed out how we project these insecurities onto others (even those who don’t even care in some cases).

Why did the YouTuber focus on this issues this time around? You see, Zaid AliT’s wife Yumna has been at the receiving end on social media, and its all because of our complex regarding ‘fair skin’. That is not the kind of attention you’d want.

Yumna’s physical appearance, specifically her skin tone, should be no one’s business.

One random troll commented that:

“This is how she looks cute. Cheap.Black.Monkey.”

If it wasn’t brown people hating on Yumna for being brown, we’d call this something else (hint: it rhymes with fascism).

About Zaid AliT and Yumna

The duo got married around a year and a half ago. Ever since Zaid introduced her to his audience, Yumna has become a social media star in her own right.

However, she continues to get hateful comments regarding her skin color. Despite being called out for this, the hate just hasn’t stopped. Yumna’s refusal to react has just made trolls more aggressive.

To counter this, Zaid finally decided to tackle the subject with the attention it deserves.

‘My Wife is Ugly’

He made the vlog titled My Wife Is Ugly. The video features the couple reading the worst comments (minus the profanities) directed towards Yumna on social media.

The expose wasn’t limited to our biggest insecurity vis-a-vis the ‘Gora complex.’ It also featured other issues that show how messed up our society can be.

Zaid called for starting the hashtag #PhuphoKeBetayAurBetiyonKiDiscriminationEndsNow. That hashtag says it all.

“These comments are just a narrow window into how we perceive women in our society and shred their self-worth to pieces by shaming them for their appearance.”

Working Hard is Not a Crime

Zaid then went on to throw a light on classism. Why is working hard considered a negative, especially if its a woman? No one says the same about Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos or others if you think about it.

“This girl looks like our maid, by the way, good choice.”

As for telling people they got the job they looked the part for, someone actually told Sylvester Stalone that’s he’s too ugly to be an actor. He then ended up making Rocky and the rest as they say, is history.

Fat Shaming Was Next

Then came the issue of fat-shaming. Well people, Yumna is proud, strong and ‘moti’. And she’s not bothered about what you say.

While some people feel better about their lives by saying all these mean things, Yumna and Zaid had a ball laughing it off.

“This girl is too skinny, please feed her otherwise she’ll starve to death. Skeleton.”

Saas-Bahu Issues

Some people let their imaginations run wild with an assumed ‘saas-bahu’ rivalry. No people it’s 2019 and we aren’t filming a soap opera. That ‘pegging women against women’ tactic does not work as well as they’d have you believe.

“I hate Yumna not because she’s ugly, but because she took Zaid away from his mother.”

It’s concerning how a modern society such as ours continues to hold on to this post-colonial mindset were fair is better. How does a society that looks down on hard-working women progress?

The world could be a better place when everyone could work on enhancing their own self-esteem, instead of belittling others. That, in a nutshell, is what Zaid and Yumna hoped to accomplish in their new vlog this time.
