10th Avenue Project Faces Delays Due to Shortage of Funds

ISLAMABAD: The mega 10th Avenue project has been badly affected due to a shortage of funds.

The project started in March 2022 and was expected to complete in a period of 21 months, however, its development progress in 9 months indicates that it has failed to meet the deadline.

It was shared that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has only been able to commence 5 percent of the work due to limited funds.

Additionally, from an amount of PKR 1,400 million, the Federal government designated PKR 350 million for the project, and according to the CDA officials, only PKR 70 million were released.

The officials added that the project required PKR 90 million against shifting of utility service and without the provision of required funds, no progress could be made on the project.

As per the details, the mega 10th Avenue project will be constructed in two phases. The first phase includes a 5-kilometer road from IJP to Srinagar Highway, while the second phase will include Srinagar to Margalla Road.

The officials also shared that the development work on the I-9 bridge, I-10 bridge, and other loops that would link 10th Avenue with IJP road is underway.

It was also disclosed that the funds were not the only hurdle in this project; there is also a colony named Rimsha Colony in H-9 that is quite populated and for this project and almost 1,400 houses need to be demolished.

Earlier this year, at the public hearing for the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA), it was decided that a committee comprised of CDA personnel and representatives from H-9 Rimsha Colony would be created to find a solution to the slum that is in the right of way of the planned road.

However, the issue remains unsolved.

Comments

  1. Communication in Islamabad is crippled and time consuming in the absence of 20th Ave. Lot of fuel consumed by vehicles detouring to reach I-9/I-10 or fruit & veg mandi or to reach some areas of Rawalpindi. This will be of great advantage to the people inasmuch as it would be for the Govt.

  2. These two projects, repairing IJP road and 10th avenue are very useful for sectors “I” series in the future, but nowadays the residents of I-9 and I -10 are facing difficulties no others, even have been circled, only the Railway road is open, and remains chocked every time, CDA is requested to complete both projects, asap.

  3. One Q, Is the there any need of 10th Avenue if there is no funds available & country is not financially stable & near to default.
I think no need because IJP road almost connected to srinagar highway with faqeer appe road, also i9,i10 service road is connected to 9th Avenue or double & road its connecting to srinagar highway at peshawar morr.
As a Rider I don’t feel need of this project so why we are wasting funds & time of the Nation.
    Thanks
