QUETTA: The Balochistan Public Health Engineering (PHE) department has submitted a feasibility report of 3 major dams to tackle the serious issue of water shortage faced by Quetta city.
As per the details, the feasibility report and PC 1 of Babar Kach Dam, Brij Aziz Khan Dam, and Halak Dam have been prepared to construct these dams, with a total estimated cost of Rs. 143 billion.
The sources claimed that Quetta, the capital of Balochistan, has been grappling with a severe water crisis for many years, and the underground water level is declining at an alarming rate every day.
Furthermore, the provincial government has decided to approach the federal government to include these dams in the federal PSDP, the Private Sector Development Program, 2023-24.
According to officials, the Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo will request the Prime Minister to add the dam projects with an estimated cost of Rs. 73 billion for Babar Kach Dam, Rs. 48 billion for Burj Aziz Khan Dam, and Rs. 22 billion for Halak Dam in the federal PSDP.
The provincial government hopes that the construction of these dams will alleviate the water crisis faced by the people of Quetta.
