ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Housing and Works has yielded to the pressure from government employees and stopped its anti-encroachment operation against illegally constructed structures in federal government residencies in Islamabad.
As per the details, the illegal structures, built by government servants for their personal use or rented out to private individuals, have disrupted the original map of buildings and compromised the beauty of the capital.
The Ministry, with the support of other state organizations, had launched an operation against illegal expansion a few days ago.
However, local representatives of government employees, including the President of the Islamabad chapter of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, and former union council chairmen of his party, convinced the minister to stop the operation, citing tough economic conditions in the country.
According to sources, Federal Minister Maulana Abdul Wasay announced the halt, promising to consider a new strategy of high-rise buildings to provide modern residential facilities to federal government employees.
Although the situation is not suitable for an anti-encroachment drive, he vowed to do everything in his ambition to resolve the issue in the future.
He added that an anti-encroachment campaign, however, would only serve to further subjugate the already oppressed public.
The minister continued by saying that although additional building on rooftops and in courtyards disrupts the building’s original layout and jeopardizes the planned city’s beauty, it is still not advised to conduct an anti-encroachment operation in these conditions since it will result in significant financial loss for the residents.
Meanwhile, representatives of the residents of federal-owned residential accommodations thanked Maulana Abdul Wasay and Iftikhar Ali Shallwani, Federal Secretary of Housing, and Works, for putting an end to the anti-encroachment operation, and providing much-needed relief to the public.

This is Pakistan, were blessing of superior beings,can stop any action against the law breakers. People who constructed beyond the scope of their original design;should have considered the consequences of their actions. This is a minor matter, people here can murder someone, and phone call will save them. I wounder if the spirits of pre 1947 rulers,still roam in our land ;built in the name of religion and blood of many.May Allah almighty protect and save Pakistan.
