Estate Office Survey Finds Illegal Construction, Subletting In Govt Residences

ISLAMABAD: A parliamentary panel was informed that during a survey of 3,229 government-owned houses in G-6, G-7, and F-6, additional construction was found in 1,224 houses, and 262 residences were partially sublet.

The Estate Office of the Ministry of Housing and Works shared this information with the National Assembly Standing Committee on Housing, under the chairmanship of Member of National Assembly (MNA) Dr. Ibadullah.

During the discussion, representatives from the Estate Office informed the committee that a survey had been conducted in sectors G-6, G-7, and F-6 in accordance with the committee’s directions.

“During a visit to 3,229 houses, additional construction was discovered in 1,224 houses, while 262 houses were discovered to be partially sublet. Taking note of the situation, 108 sublet house allotments were canceled, and efforts to cancel the remaining sublet houses are underway,” the committee member stated.

Furthermore, members of the committee expressed concern about additional constructions and subletting of government houses, and directed the office to take appropriate action with the assistance of all departments.

The NA body guided the Estate Office to take on board the Public Works Department (PWD), Capital Development Authority (CDA), and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration, and submit a report to the committee at the earliest.

Earlier, the Estate Office and the Ministry of Housing and Works vacated over 2,817 government properties from illegal occupants and handed them over to legitimate owners across the country.
