Sindh Court Indicts Deputy Commissioner, Others in Land Grabbing Case

KARACHI: A sessions court ruled that the chiefs of the Sindh Board of Revenue, the deputy commissioner-West, the chief of the Karachi police, and their subordinate officers were not only wilfully negligent but also assisted in the illegal occupation of state land in the district.

As per the details, the court ruling came in the aftermath of Manghopir Mukhtiarkar Ejaz Chandio’s death, during an anti-encroachment operation in Surjani Town.

Furthermore, in response to a citizen’s complaint regarding the unauthorized use of a 120-square-yard plot in Hassan Brohi Goth, Additional District and Sessions Judge (West), Zulfiqar Ali, learned from a report submitted on November 14 that the plot was state property and neither belonged to the complainant Muhammad Riaz nor the respondent Sharafat Ali Kiyani.

The court further stated that it had become clear that this government-owned property was not being cared for, and the deputy commissioner and their subordinates were without a shadow of a doubt to blame.

The judge stated, “It is a sorry state of affairs in District West where there are many such government lands which fall prey to land grabbers for unlawful buying and selling practices, thus contributing to an increase in registration of civil and criminal cases, as well as those of murder.”
