ISLAMABAD: The Bhara Kahu bypass project is facing quality control concerns and delays due to two recent incidents.
According to sources, the construction company working on the project has requested an additional 3 months from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to complete the project, which is now expected to conclude before Eid-Ul-Azha.
The construction company stated that the manufacturing of girders and beams takes time, but assured CDA that the project will continue under predetermined standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Rushing the project has led to accidents before, the source added, while a dedicated commission is currently investigating the bypass accidents.
CDA’s report revealed that two catastrophic failures occurred due to human error and the department has recommended filing a case against a cargo company and the driver, as the shutter of the pillar fell due to a collision with a truck.
The contractor, project manager, shift in charge, and crane operator were held responsible for the girder collapse incident, as per CDA’s report.
The source added that the crane operator had placed the fifth girder crooked, which compromised the weight balance, and the party in charge ignored the serious issue.
As a result of the crane accident, CDA has directed the relevant parties to re-plan the project. The initial deadline for the project was March 23, but it is likely to be pushed forward.

We live in a state where Capital administration is corrupt and contractors don’t know the SOPs to work. There was no environmental consideration during the whole project and federal university land has been used by paying to university administration and bribe to sign. Only solution is accountability of each and every person involved in it.
