Capital Development Authority Takes Steps to Relocate G-10 Ladies Bazaar

ISLAMABAD: Lawmakers were informed on Wednesday that the G-10 Ladies Bazaar in Islamabad was established without proper planning and on the right of way of 11th Avenue.

The construction of the bazaar took place without a feasibility study or planning, disregarding the expenditure of over Rs. 70 million.

Despite its completion, the bazaar has remained non-functional. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is now prepared to commence the construction of 11th Avenue.

The Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) initiated the establishment of the Ladies Bazaar in sector G-10 a few years ago, allocating Rs. 70 million for the project.

The construction was announced in September 2021 by then-Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed.

However, instead of the concerned directorate, MCI’s sports directorate carried out the construction, which was completed in February 2022.

Sources suggest that MCI bypassed the tendering process for most of the work and opted for quotations, even for projects worth billions of rupees.

The issue of the non-functioning bazaar was raised in the National Assembly by MNA Shagufta Jumani.

In response to her query, the Ministry of Interior provided a written reply, stating that the bazaar had not been made operational due to technical issues.

Regarding the expenditure, the ministry stated that Rs. 70.8 million had been spent on establishing the bazaar, which features 98 stalls, two tuck shops, a kid’s play area, and seven washrooms.

Minister of State for Law and Justice Shahadat Awan, speaking on behalf of the interior ministry, acknowledged that the previous government initiated the project without proper study and planning.

He emphasized that the bazaar was constructed without input from the CDA’s planning wing and on the right of way of 11th Avenue.

However, he assured that a new site would be identified after conducting a study and proper planning.

He affirmed that funds had been allocated for the project and the bazaar would be made operational shortly.

The minister also assured that action would be taken against those responsible for the misuse of funds.

MNA Rohale Asghar also expressed concerns over the prolonged delay in the project and urged the current government to resolve the issue.

  1. The idea is good though not at proper location due to 11 avenue. CDA should start not onlu this but also some more bazars for women by the women.

  2. The tuckshops established under Ihsas Program on footpaths of G-11 Markaz need to be relocated, as the same are great trouble for the pedestrian especially women’s.

  3. It is easy for CDA to shift the blame on previous government. Why they didn’t came out when the plan was being executed.

There is another complex of Women Club in G-10 which like this bazar is yet to be made functional by CDA. The buildig is lying vacant for more than a decade.

The same is the fate of intercity wagon station in G-10 sector which has now been occupied by motor mechanics.
While Sunday bazaar G-10 adjacent to Women Bazaar is in extreme dilapidated condition.

G-10 Market is also a proof of CDA’s criminal negligence. It is in a shabby condition. Buildings, pavements and roads are all extremely below standards.
Buland Market in G-10/1 is also another marvel of criminal negligence of CDA. It is also in complete dilapidated condition.

I&T Centre in G-10 Sector is another
example of CDA’s criminal negligence nearly all occupied by motor mechanics who have turned the area very dirty and in shabby condition. They have also illegally occupied araes for repairing purposes.
