ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul-Haq Kakar has highlighted the significance of robust road infrastructure in Balochistan during a meeting to review ongoing road projects.
The caretaker PM stressed that a well-developed road network is crucial for a country’s growth and urged the construction of road infrastructure in areas that can attract foreign investments.
The meeting focused on updates about projects such as the Pinjarra Bridge on the Quetta-Sukkur highway and the Sawar Bridge on the Quetta-Zhob Road.
According to sources, the Pinjarra bridge, damaged by last year’s flood, is set to commence reconstruction next month.
The new bridge, with a height of 15 meters and a width of 12 meters, is projected to be completed in about 9 months.
Efforts to reconstruct and rehabilitate the 118-km Quetta-Dhadar Road and the 188-km Dhadar-Jacobabad Road were also discussed.
These initiatives aim not only to save fuel but also to alleviate vehicular congestion.
Moreover, the repair work on the 282-meter-long Sawar bridge, which is in its final stages, was also highlighted.
Due to the absence of an alternative route, traffic could not be diverted during the repair process.
The bridge’s reconstruction is scheduled to begin soon, with an estimated completion time of 6 months.
Kakar also underscored the role of the National Highway Authority (NHA) in road maintenance and construction.
He emphasized the importance of completing road infrastructure projects in Balochistan and urged the reconstruction of the Karachi-Chaman highway.
Besides, he also called for innovative approaches to expedite construction work, emphasizing the government’s responsibility to provide essential facilities to the public.
