CDA Achieves 50% Progress on Bhara Kahu Bypass Project

ISLAMABAD: On Sunday, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) announced that the Bhara Kahu bypass project had reached a completion rate of more than 50%.

According to a spokesperson of CDA, the Bhara Kahu bypass project is fully operational, and more than half of the work has been completed.

Moreover, after the visit of the civic authority’s chairman, CDA tweeted that the project would ease traffic congestion and pollution while also making it easier for visitors to go to Murree.

Furthermore, the inspection visits to the project site were made by the CDA chairman, Capt (r) Mohammad Usman, along with Member Engineering Syed Munawar Shah, and others.

Besides, a member of the engineering department, and the director gave the chairman an update on the project’s status.

According to sources, the CDA chairman instructed the engineering wing to finish the project at the earliest.

Despite the 24-hour effort, according to the sources, it appears the massive project will not complete by February 10 as per the deadline given by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The sources informed that even if the 6-kilometer project, which includes a bridge, an interchange, three underpasses, and a more than one-kilometer flyover, is completed by the end of March, the CDA would have accomplished much.

The 6.5 billion rupee bypass project begins from Malpur and goes across Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) property.

It is to note here that the university’s 199 Kanal land is said to be in the road’s alignment according to the CDA, which has previously given the QAU 225 Kanal in exchange.

However, the project was dogged by controversy as academics from QAU filed a lawsuit and won a stay order that lasted for around 2 months.

The petition of the faculty members was recently denied by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) while CDA then accelerated the work at the QAU component. In the meanwhile, the QAU filed an IHC intra-court appeal.

The road, which is 5.6 km long (including a 1-kilometer flyover), begins from Murree Road in Malpur and ends on Murree Road at the Jugi bus stop next to Punjab Cash and Carry in Bhara Kahu.

According to a CDA official, 100% of the pile construction had been finished, and the municipal organization was now concentrating on pile capping work while underpasses were also almost completed.
