ISLAMABAD: In a recent development aimed at bolstering security measures in public parks and markets, officials convened to strategize ways to effectively identify stolen or lost mobile phones using their unique IMEI numbers.

According to a statement from a police public relations officer, this initiative seeks to not only curb theft but also overhaul outdated recording systems.

The key focus of the meeting was to deliberate methods for tracking mobile phones associated with individuals involved in criminal activities and thefts, utilizing IMEI numbers.

Experts in the field of information technology underscored that even if someone alters the IMEI number of a mobile phone and transfers it to another device, the original IMEI number can still be identified.

This breakthrough discovery is poised to significantly aid law enforcement efforts in apprehending criminals.

During the event, officers from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) emphasized the imperative of collaboration with the Islamabad Capital Police to modernize public parks and transform them into state-of-the-art facilities.

Additionally, the proposal to equip public parks, market zones, and thoroughfares with surveillance cameras, monitored through the Safe City Command and Control Center, gained traction.

As an added safety measure, there was a suggestion to install emergency buttons in poorly illuminated areas, further enhancing the security infrastructure.

Furthermore, the Chief Police Officer (CPO) responsible for Safe City and Traffic management advocated for the integration of identification card records into the new security framework for individuals frequenting public parks.

The CPO reaffirmed unwavering cooperation with the officers and arranged a firsthand visit to the Safe City Command and Control Center.

He noted that by leveraging technology and innovative strategies, authorities can create a safer environment for citizens and visitors alike.
