CDA Approves Expansion of Srinagar Highway and Jinnah Avenue

ISLAMABAD: The city managers have decided to initiate the expansion of a portion of Srinagar Highway, with the construction of an underpass near Serena Chowk and the widening of Jinnah Avenue in the G-9 and F-9 sections.

During a meeting of the Capital Development Authority Development Working Party (CDA-DWP) held at the CDA headquarters, various developmental projects were discussed, and a consultant was approved to prepare a feasibility report and design for the expansion of Srinagar Highway from the 7th Avenue Interchange to Serena Chowk.

The consultant will also construct an underpass to help alleviate traffic congestion in the area, along with the addition of cyclist tracks on either side of the road.

Additionally, an amount of Rs8.5 million was approved for the project, and the consultant is expected to complete their work in two months.

Another project worth Rs482.6 million, i.e. the widening of Jinnah Avenue in the G-9/F-9 section, was also approved during the meeting.

It has been shared that this project aims to add two more lanes to the road, along with a cyclist track, and is expected to be completed within six months.

Furthermore, the meeting approved consultancy services for the feasibility and engineering design for the construction of a National Bus Terminal to be built in sector I-11, with an approved amount of Rs10 million.

The terminal will be used for a public bus service, and the consultant will conduct a study to connect it with the existing metro bus network, with an expected completion time of two months.

The meeting also approved a PC-I worth Rs52 million for the provision of security gates at various places in the Red Zone.

It is important to mention that two other agenda items, namely a mega project for the development and infrastructure facilities in rural areas of Islamabad and the development of the Chatta Bakhtawar project, have been deferred.

CDA’s engineering wing wanted to carry out these multi-billion development projects in rural areas through a two-year project, but the meeting decided to defer these projects, seeking input from the federal government before taking them up again.

The PTI government has carried out some development projects in rural areas, including the construction of the Malal and Kayani bridges.

  2. This is a very good news regarding expansion of Srinagar Highway but it will be more beautiful anf safe if the U-Turn on the Srinagar highway may also be re-designed. These u-turns are very dangerous and need to be re-modified as early as possible. Specially, driving in night on this road has already met severe accidents.
