CDA to Construct Two New Parking Plazas in Islamabad

In response to the increasing parking problems faced by motorists in the city, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced the construction of two new parking plazas in Islamabad.

The decision comes as work on the Blue Area parking plaza, worth Rs1.3 billion, is underway, with a deadline of September 30th, 2023.

According to an official of the CDA, the Blue Area parking plaza faced delays due to a big nullah and slush, which caused the project to miss its initial deadline.

However, work is now in full swing, and the plaza is expected to be completed on time.

Meanwhile, the director of works, Tahir Mahmood, stated that tenders would be called in the next three days to award contracts for the construction of two new plazas – one in I-8 markaz and one in F-8.

He added that the design for four more plazas is also completed, and the CDA will soon decide when to start their construction.

Notably, the city has been facing parking problems due to the shrinking availability of parking spaces.

The CDA had previously constructed two underground parking spaces in Jinnah Super Market, but they could not be utilized correctly, despite millions of rupees being spent on their construction.

CDA officials highlighted that the increase in the number of vehicles and poor implementation of bylaws and planning were contributing factors behind the parking issue.

Parking spaces had been designed in markets and plazas according to the number of shops, but with time, shop owners altered the layout plan, increasing the number of shops.

The Islamabad Traffic Police had previously written to the CDA regarding the shortage of parking spaces in Blue Area and other commercial centers, including F-8 Markaz, in 2016.

The construction of new parking plazas is expected to provide relief to the city’s motorists facing parking problems.

  3. After the completion of judicial complex G10 or G11 after this No need is left parking plaza at F8 Markez please reconcile F8 parking plaza decision۔

  4. This is good initiative by CDA, but every plaza in private sector should not be allowed to construct until required parking is not given in that project.
