CDA to Impose Heavy Fines for Littering in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: In a groundbreaking move, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has unveiled its decision to impose hefty fines on individuals found guilty of littering anywhere in Islamabad.

This initiative marks the first time such stringent measures will be enforced within the city limits.

To ensure successful implementation, the CDA plans to develop a specialized task force to execute this program efficiently.

The CDA’s Chairman, Noor ul Amin Mengal, took to the official Twitter handle to announce the development, signaling a new era in the city’s ongoing battle against littering.

The authority’s decision is influenced by a suggestion made on Twitter.

Inspired by the practices implemented in countries like Dubai and Singapore, a concerned individual proposed the idea to the CDA, citing personal experience of being fined $150 in another nation for similar misconduct.

This encounter abroad has instilled a newfound fear in the individual, leading them to discourage littering in Pakistan as well.

The decision has been met with widespread support from residents and environmental activists alike, who have long advocated for stronger measures to maintain the cleanliness and aesthetics of the capital city.

To effectively enforce the new regulations, the CDA intends to leverage the power of modern technology by incorporating surveillance systems, including the widely acclaimed Safe City and CCTV cameras, across the city.

This integrated approach will enable the authority to monitor public spaces closely and identify individuals violating anti-littering regulations.

With the introduction of these strict fines, the CDA aims to discourage littering behaviors among residents and visitors while promoting a cleaner and greener environment throughout Islamabad.

Offenders will face substantial penalties, serving as a deterrent to those who flout the established guidelines.

The decision reflects the CDA’s commitment to upholding environmental standards and maintaining Islamabad’s reputation as a pristine city.

  1. This is a good decision and it must be taken long long ago. But its never late. Continuous implementation for such improvement, CDA has a devoting team work and surveillance all the time.

  2. Thank You CDA and New Director Sanitation, Our Hearts Bleed When We See Trash Littered All over The City, Kindly Take Strict Notice of Trash, Tree Leaves & Garbage Dumps Being set on Fire on Regular Basis In Islamabad Causing Major Air Pollution.
    Bestest Regards

  3. A very good effort/plans on the part of CDA. My two bit advise to everyone.
    1. General public should also be made aware and trained in environmental cleanliness. One sees families (picnicking) in the parks (F9 etc) having food and drinks. Nobody bothers to collect and dispose their trash when the bins are nearby or in some cases right next to them.
    2. People in cars and public transport dispose off their trash on the roads instead of keeping in their vehicles and dispose off at a proper place.
People cleaning and washing their hoses…their houses/cars should be clean but they couldn’t care less that in return they are throwing all the trash and water in the streets, but lo they themselves/living place is clean…good Muslim.
    3. The trash/junk collectors…they take and throw everything out of the big CDA dustbins looking for whatever they want and throw the garbage out. The wind does the rest.

I think that if we start teaching our kids at school level (NOW) then maybe after a generation, Pakistan would be a cleaner place to live.
