CDA to Rename Roads in Islamabad after Prominent Personalities

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to name roads, streets, intersections, and significant places in the capital city after prominent personalities from the country.

This move is meant to pay tribute to these famous personalities, who can include poets, artists, politicians, singers, and martyrs, and to raise awareness about their contributions to the country’s progress and dignity.

Previously, the CDA used to name roads after prominent personalities based on advice from the federal government or organizations, or at the request of individuals.

However, it has now been decided that roads and streets will be named based on the level of the individual’s contribution to the country.

CDA Chairman Noorul Amin Mengal recently wrote to all chief secretaries of the provinces, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, and the armed forces, including the Intelligence Bureau, asking them to provide a list of 20 individuals each who have made a significant contribution to the country’s history.

He is hoping to receive these lists by February 10th.

Mr. Mengal, who played a leading role in naming roads and important spots in Lahore a couple of years ago, joined the CDA and was informed that there were still a number of roads and important places that remained unnamed.

He then sought details of these places so that they could be named after famous personalities. He said that this practice is common across the world and is a way of keeping the memories of their heroes alive and allowing them to remain an important part of the country’s history and culture.

CDA, which was formed in 1960, has already named around 107 roads after various personalities, including four roads after foreign head of states.

Furthermore, roads in the I-11, I-14, I-15 areas, as well as some in G-8 and D-12, and many roads and intersections in the old sectors, are among those that will be renamed.

  1. Utter Madness.

Why spend more on painting and repainting billboards when the country is on the verge of default?

    We shall never learn.

  2. Pl pay attention to timely completion of ongoing projects like improvements principal road n islamabad expressway. Commotion on these two alone results in hundreds of thousands of litres of fuel wastage every year.

  3. As Islamabad is Capital. Main avenues should be named after previous Presidents, prime ministers, chairmen senate, speaker national assembly. So that we should know their names.

  4. Please include Indian occupied jammu and kashmir heroes like Mir viez Farooq, Maqbool Butt,Syed Ali Gillani, Sardar Abdul Qayum and Sardar Fateh Muhammad karelvi and Sardar Sikandar Hayat Khan late.

  5. Totally useless step. Street names should be short and easy to remember.
Existing name,”Mir Chakar Khan Road”, would be better if named Hali Road, Tipu Road, Baber Road, Umar Road, Rasool Road etc.
Easy to remember, require smaller boards & cost less paint to maintain.
