ISLAMABAD: Imran Khan, the former prime minister of Pakistan and chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has been arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Tuesday in connection with the Al-Qadir Trusts’ land scam case.

As per the details, the police team was assisted by Pakistan Rangers personnel, while PTI lawyer Faisal Chaudhry also confirmed the arrest.

PTI Vice President Fawad Chaudhry took to Twitter to accuse that the Islamabad High Court had been “occupied by the Rangers” and lawyers were “being subjected to torture.”

According to the documents, Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, and their close aides, Zulfiqar Bukhari, and Babar Awan, formed the Al-Qadir University Project Trust to establish “Al-Qadir University” in Tehsil Sohawa of District Jhelum, Punjab.

The trust had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a private company involved in the real estate business, Bahria Town, to receive donations from the latter.

Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, and Farah Khan were the trust’s three beneficiaries, and it is said that Malik Riaz assisted in the acquisition of 458 Kanal of land for the trust.
