LAHORE: As the government focuses on turning nine major roads in Lahore into model ones by clearing encroachments and addressing other issues, many other neglected roads are in dire need of attention.
Encroachments on Barki Road, Madina Road, Multan Road, Karim Block Road, and Aiwan-i-Adl Road are causing inconvenience to the public, affecting the city’s aesthetics and architecture, and leading to severe traffic and environmental issues.
Residents have expressed their concerns, stating that even after previous anti-encroachment operations, shopkeepers continue to occupy road shoulders.
They have urged the Lahore district administration and the Lahore Metropolitan Corporation (LMC) to include these roads in the model roads list and launch anti-encroachment operations from time to time.
The situation is worse on Madina Road, which has seen failed anti-encroachment operations leading to religious and sectarian issues, property damage, injuries, and scuffles between officials and shopkeepers.
The residents have requested the government to take notice of the road’s condition and initiate necessary action.
The Chief Town Planner of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA), Shakil Ahmad, stated that Madina Road is within the LDA’s building-controlled area, and they will launch operations there.
However, the MCL Chief Metropolitan Officer was not available for comment.

Urgent attention is required to streamline traffic mess on the Airport Road (DHA to the Airport via Bhatta Chowk). This is the only artery which connect DHA Phases 1,2,3,4 to the Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore.
Bedian Road also need attention of the Government please.
