ISLAMABAD: Commuters who frequently travel on the bumpy PWD Road are experiencing nightmares due to perpetual traffic jams and potholes, resulting in physical and financial losses.
Despite the initial deadline of June 2021, the expansion of the Islamabad Expressway is still ongoing, causing further disruption on the PWD Road.
Furthermore, many private housing societies are situated on either side of the Islamabad Expressway, which has worsened the roadblocks, according to locals.
The long-awaited expansion of the road into a five-lane free corridor will alleviate the commute for hundreds of thousands of commuters traveling between Rawat and Islamabad.
The details suggest that this 13 km stretch of the expansion connects over a quarter million residents living in Zone-V of Islamabad.
As a significant route, the signal-free corridor linking Zero Point in Islamabad to Rawat on the Grand Trunk (GT) Road will provide a more extensive course for traffic entering and leaving the city.
Additionally, the civic agency proposed that housing societies construct interchanges at their own expense to link their entrances to the Islamabad Expressway.
Besides, the contract for the project was granted to the lowest bidder out of two bidders to construct a four-lane road on both sides, including the construction of a service road along the PWD interchange.
According to the details, two lanes will be allocated for heavy traffic, while two flexible lanes will be used for general vehicular traffic.
An official explained that the CDA board authorized the project to be executed through a government contractor under the 42(F) rules of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA), allowing government-owned organizations to directly contract with other state-owned entities.
He assured that the work on this portion of the Islamabad Expressway began six months ago and would be completed within the allotted time frame, adding that the traffic police are also ensuring the smooth flow of traffic.

They have dug up both sides simultaneously which has created numerous problems.it would have been better if one side at a time was made. At present pace it may take at least 6 months.
“Despite the initial deadline of June 2021, the expansion of the Islamabad Expressway is still ongoing, causing further disruption on the PWD Road.”
That’s typical of FWO/NLC duo. They are highly unprofessional and never deliver on time while availing plethora of tax/duties/guarantee exemptions claiming to be defense organizations leading to significant fiscal benefit to themselves while a loss to exchequer.

This is a means to have a corrupt monopoly and against private contractors by only awarding construction work in Islamabad to FWO/NLC duo. They deliver late, projects are shoddy and it is killing private construction industry in Islamabad/Rawalpindi region just to placate Military Businesses by Military Establishment.
Not correct AT ALL. It’s other way around. This project was initially given to a private contractor and due to his inefficiency that was cancelled and given to FWO. It was a sigh of relief for all travelling daily on this road that includes me and my family on three sperate cars. NLC & FWO have completed many projects in the past and achieved world class standards. HOPEFULLY THIS PROJECT WILL ALSO BE COMPLETED SOON. IN SHAA ALLAH

1000% true but who cares brother. Yea watan tumhara hay ham hain kha makha is main
Agreed 100%. Just like other military establishments evade duties and taxes by declaring themselves as officer’s mess, whereas all kind of functions (marriage etc) for civilian/armed forces are conducted there.
public is suffering due to non professional attitude of FWO and NLC facilitated by CDA and we will keep on till professionals are are prioritized. Machinery hired by these organizations is symbolic that work is in progress otherwise they don’t think they r working to meet any deadline. What a shame that only a patch of 5 to 6 km from gulberg green to rawat and such a huge time. Shame on them. I still remember the professional way MAAKSONS worked from koral chowk to zero point for expansion some 15 years back. They worked day and night with smooth flow and high quality.
I have noticed that slow moving Heavy traffic drivers occupy all the lanes of currently available road. If Heavy is managed to stay in one dedicated lane, light vehicles cane move fast and safe. The contractor and Traffic Police jointly may plan to ease the situation. Deployment of suitable number of attentive officers of traffic police may efficiently improve bottleneck and blockage of traffic.
I have noticed the presence of police on road, but standing irrelevant to their assignment.
It never gona be complete!
The pain which people in DHA and Emaar are facing is far more than the PWD part, the heavy traffic and usual traffic all are moving on one side of road only two lanes, making it horrible for residents. The entry point of emaar is dug badly and the cars trying to turn on road or to emaar have to go through broken ways. The one side concrete road which was serving the purpose and their was a sign of relief for people had been broken to reconstruct without making a substitute road. Two lanes simply not enough to move traffic including heavy traffic.
