RDA Seals 146 Properties in Anti-Encroachment Operation

RAWALPINDI: The Director General (DG) of Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA), Saif Anwar Jappa, has ordered strict legal action against illegal constructions and has called to seal such properties.

According to an RDA official, the Land Use and Building Control Wing (LU&BC) has conducted raids and taken legal action against the encroachers as a part of its ongoing campaign against unlicensed and unlawful commercial constructions.

During the past two weeks, 146 illegal structures, including 100 shops at Banni Stop, 40 illegal shops on Girja and Chakra roads, one residential under-construction building at Gulraiz Housing scheme, booking offices of 2 illegal private housing schemes at Moza Thalian, and 100 shops at Mori Ghazan area on Chakri Road, were sealed.

The sources claim that the authorities, in order to stop encroachments and land grabbing have begun a massive campaign against unlawful construction, adding that, the Assistant Directors, Building Inspectors, and other members of the LU&BC Wing carried out the operation and sealed the illegal commercial buildings under Punjab Development of Cities Act 1976 and RDA Building and Zoning Regulations 2021.

The spokesman said that notices had also been served to violators at the DG’s order and the DG had instructed the relevant authorities to take strict action without prejudice against unlicensed and illegal residential and commercial encroachments.

He also urged the citizens to remove encroachments on their own and refrain from such illegal activities.

The planning wing of the RDA also asked the FIA’s Cyber Crime Wing to take legal action against the illegal and deceptive advertisements of housing schemes.

Earlier, the DG made obtaining the authority’s no-objection certificate (NOC) mandatory before advertising anything related to private housing schemes.
