RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) is set to begin a feasibility study for a signal-free corridor from Koral Chowk to Motorway Chowk through Peshawar Road.
According to sources, the new project aims to reduce travel time from one hour to 10-15 minutes, benefiting travelers from Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
According to a senior official, the RDA has extended the route of the signal-free corridor to Motorway Chowk due to traffic congestion on Peshawar Road.
The provincial government aims to facilitate citizens by constructing the signal-free corridor, which was first initiated in 2017.
However, work on the project was delayed due to the lack of interest of the previous government.
The feasibility study will be completed in six months after which the RDA will hire a consultant to begin work on the project.
Furthermore, the 22km signal-free corridor will have five underpasses, one flyover, and U-turns established in different areas.
As per the RDA officials, the project aims to provide an opportunity for travelers to reach the Islamabad airport via the motorway without wasting time.
The project’s estimated cost is Rs. 20 billion, and RDA Director General Saif Anwar Jappa stated that Rs. 80 million will be spent on the feasibility study.
The project will also involve remodeling work on Kutchery Chowk, and after the completion of both projects, traffic rush on the mall, Peshawar Road, old Airport Road, and G.T. Road is expected to ease.

Rawalpindi bypass should be the only and most prioritized project for Rawalpindi and Islamabad
It wld reduce traffic congestion on isb express highway, IJP rd, Peshawar rd,GT rd.
All other projects shld be prioritized after Rawalpindi bypass is completed
commendable efforts. Shuttle bus service is also required to be added in feasibility studies from motorway chowk5 26 No. Chungi to Saddar in order to connect metro bus service
Appreciable efforts of RDA for much needed project for the welfare of public..
Kindly conduct survey for expansion of Dhocke Chudrian Road….Scheme-III to Car Chock……To much traffic jam sue to Heavy Traffick Load…..
Idea is good đź‘Ť however instead of making costly underpasses and over heads. Protected uturn just like Kashmir highway should be made in pilot phase and a new road should be made
Great way of money making sorry for hard langugue I past many studies was carried out on samelar nature but not applicable due to conguention and building aside a road.
One one min if crupt burecarcy can implement Ring road progect in past 20 year which was linger on and use as a political slogen for every five year for vote and to support land mafia for sale their fake file and socictes plot.
These are just money making and for oblige to some friends for feasibility and face wash of crupt RDA officer
