LAHORE: In collaboration with various departments, the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) has begun work on the barrage design and river training (structural measures to improve a river and its banks).
“Building a barrage was a crucial component of the Ravi Riverfront Urban Development Project because it would help restore the river and lessen the likelihood of flooding,” said an official.
He claimed that the RUDA, Indus River System Authority (IRSA), Irrigation Department, and National Engineering Service Pakistan (NESPAK) officials collaborated on the data collection activity
The teams examined head profiling, water quality, flow, and flood conditions as they gathered data. The damage brought on by floods, river flow, etc. will be lessened by the river training works, he added.
The project is designed to revitalize the dying river Ravi and transform it into a perennial freshwater body with numerous social and environmental advantages has been envisioned by RUDA.
The first 3Km of the river channel, and 6Km downstream Ravi Siphon on the right bank of the river have begun to receive river training works as part of the project’s Phase-I.
It is to note here that the former PM Imran Khan laid the foundation stone for the Ravi project in August 2020 that is planned to feature 12 mega cities.
