ISLAMABAD: The officials of the National Assembly revealed that only 47 housing societies in Islamabad are authorized, while 109 housing schemes are unlawful.
According to details, during a recent meeting of the Standing Committee on Interior of the National Assembly, it was discussed that the capital has seen mushroom growth of unapproved and illegal housing societies in various zones.
The sources informed that Islamabad is split into 5 zones, with CDA sectors and Margalla Hills making up Zones I and II, while the remaining three zones are home to unlawful housing societies.
Furthermore, with 77 unlawful housing societies, Zone IV is the federal capital’s most abused area while 27 unlawful housing societies in Zone II, whereas there are 23 illegal developments in Zone V.
It is to note here that the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) mandated earlier this week that private housing societies get NOCs before airing advertisements on TV channels.
Additionally, PEMRA decided to only grant NOCs for advertisements to private housing plans that had received the nod from the appropriate development authorities.
Besides, housing societies that publish advertisements without receiving permission from PEMRA would face disciplinary action, said the sources.
