Telenor Pakistan has completed all preparations for implementation of verification based SIM activation regime. Chairman PTA, Dr. Mohammad Yaseen visited Telenor Pakistan’s Call Center in Lahore today to witness the process and see the state of the art purpose built system in action.
Sale of pre-activated SIMs shall be stopped by January 31, 2009, thereafter verification of Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) & activation of SIMs shall only be done through respective mobile company call centers.
For the purpose, Telenor Pakistan arranged 116 trade conventions nationwide, to educate its retailers regarding new verification based SIM activation regime. These conventions emphasized the need for proper registration of SIMs and formal documentation for existing and new connections as per the PTA and Government policies. A total of 30,000 retailers participated in these conventions.
During his visit Chairman PTA Dr. Mohammad Yaseen lauded Telenor Pakistan’s efforts toward implementation of new regime. He also praised Telenor Pakistan and its business partners for setting up an efficient system to ensure timely verification. He also spoke about the policy and action plans of PTA towards implementation of post activated SIMs.
Receiving PTA guests at the Telenor Call Center, Executive Vice President (EVP) Corporate Affairs Telenor Pakistan Irfan Wahab Khan said, “We are proud of the fact that Telenor Pakistan is the first operator to implement new post activation regime. We have made heavy investment in to this system which has created 300 new employment opportunities. An awareness campaign for the new regime is also underway. We have carried out trainings for retailers to ensure implementation at every level.”
