Telenor Clarifies its Position on Controversial TVC; Regrets if Sentiments Were Hurt

As we earlier reported, Telenor has now officially confirmed that it has taken down the much criticized TVC of Internet.More.

A statement issued by Telenor said that company has taken down the TVC based on concerns raised certain sections of society regarding the advertisement of Telenor internet.more TV campaign.

Telenor expressed its regrets if anyone’s sentiments were hurt through this advertisement.

“Said advertisement is already off air and will not be telecasted again.”

TV Channels are already airing secondary ads for Internet.More campaign.

Indeed a reasonable step by Telenor Pakistan. Same as their previous corporate record, such as, Karo Mumkin, Khuddar Pakistan initiatives, Telenor has once again acted responsibly by listening to its customers and society.

  • well-done telenor, much appreciated

similarly thumbs up for bloggers of Pakistan for running this movement at their own and forcing telenor to off-air the ad. this was an exclusive effort from all bloggers as electronic or print media did not become part of this

  • Such acts in pakistan are not wise and if they keep such attributes then they would soon be out of the market because Pakistan takes out everything in the book about marketing. if they want to stay iin then they would need to change there ways and work according to the pakistani customs and traditions

    • lol Casper

Now we should make aids of Mullas chasing children. They should probably appreciate these kinds of aids.

      • Thought users here would be having much mature thinking. Negative criticism of any group is not a good habit. it promotes hatred. Hope you understand.
        Take care & Stay Happy.

  • firstly i will like to mention that telenor doing smart business acting according to the people wishes!! thumbs up for them..
now come’s to the advertising firm which actually adopted this theme..
may be they have there own point regarding it but to me they can come up with much much much better n usefull advertisement for internet on go!! but they actually miss the chance..
now coming to the theme on which it made…
people and everyone just complaining on the theme but there is absolute no wrong in theme. this is wht actually going on in all universities and college… might be the advertisement firm just wanted to convey that thing in their advertisement.. but few days back an email for faiza alam was publish here on this site.. it is now worth questioning that was the advertisement theme was wrong or those classmate’s who are making fun of her??
comparing anyone from other one is something just to tease for nothing use..
but again i am little shock to see people responding for quickly for this advertisement!! There is one more advertisement on air from mobilink ( no offence) but just like to mention here that in that advertisement the theme is almost more or less outside our culture showing Ali zafar talking. She was getting bored n she called Ali Zafar for chit chat n the senario time was night if i dnt guess wrong.. I just want to ask people responding very quickly that didnt they find it unethical for this advertisement. Didnt they find this advertisement out of our culture?

Again No Offence to anyone i am not taking side or any company or anyone just want to draw people bias attitude towards more or less same theme..!!
think alike for every company n every advertisement.. not just start commenting others point of view.
    Think yourself!!

    • Well Dr. Owais,

I appreciate your thought but you also missed one point Dr. Owais. I agree about the Jazz ad running of Ali Zafar one but he is not commenting to any body “Tazza Hawa ka Jhooka” how do u feel if someone comment this to your wife or daughter or sister!! that’s the difference in both the ads. looking for a hookup and talking late at night but not calling different numbers and trying to find someone to talk!

and regret of Telenor shows that they accept their mistake but what’s the use of regret when you have already destroy your image! have they sacked the brand managers? Saying that we regret is not enuff.. they must take actions against those who APPROVED that. This shows the thinking of Brand Managers working in Telenor for our Youth!

      • @mustafa

dude its just a fake name they used for an advert they weren’t pin pointing any1 and if you think this is unethical then i guess awl the movies should be banned or they should start using unearthly names

  • I want to draw the attention of people on another Telenor add in which ” a guy watching TV & messaging his friends asking his father to open the door” In my opinion this should be condemn aswell, as this is showing disrespect to parents

    • VERY Valid point Abdullah!!! Even i was speechless when i saw that ad!! What they want to show about the Youth! Still we are not that much bad son or daughter of our parents

      • Hye ppl whr r u livin
i guess under the rocks bcuz if you wud have been living in the present country awl such things are common brighten ur heads up ppl n stop criticizing

  • Not exactly similar, but adds that are unrepresentative of our society are being aired by Mobilink too… as mentioned by Dr Fawad

In my opinion, the ad which makes you twitchy while you are sitting with your sis, mom or dad can give good idea about its decency… but problem is that its getting opposite with enlightened moderation being thought as success pre-requisite in almost every second home… Allah hidayat day… amin

Agreed that society is turning up to be bad to worse with the moral respects coming down and less regard for the golden teachings… but that should never be the excuse for pushing the whole society in to a garbage can…

But, i would reiterate that first, people at Coporate companies should think wisely and not merely for money, secondly we, the proclaimed wise persons, should try to make every such move uneffective… besides, there are so many ways to market your product…

well done… to all and to pro-pakistani… specially

  • they are still playing old facebook ad on tv. i watched it on ARY Music at 6:20PM(Sep 23)…wt to do of these companies!!!

  • AoA,
I highly appreciate and thankful of Telenor for taken down TVC . It is big big greatness Now UFONE should follow to take down his objection able TVC

  • I would encourage all the people who raise their voice on such issues, this is the 2nd degree of jihad & we should continue this, i also want to thank pro pakistan or such other forums, where people can raise their voice, please be more proactive on such issues & leave no stone unturned to condemn all the bad/unethical things which have been injecting in our youth.

    • I am with you Abdullah… Even i have joined one Facebook Fan page by the name of “Telenor Condemn – Faiza Alam”

  • Ok so i was with Telenor on this scandalous trip of epiphany, where i arrived to the simple conclusion that “Hum waqai kaafi farigh hein” that we have no positive contribution for the society other then to be a rumor mill and just look into the others house and give your take on the situation. Anyways Telenor respecting the out of mind “We want it this way” people of Pakistan who feel perfectly well watching Indian movies and some occasional Porn on the web, who u can also call iMullah as seen on the side sent us this press release, i hope you are happy now people, Phape Kutney all of you.

    • @fido.. what you want to say? u are failed to justify yourself in this matter. No further reply on your irrelevant comments.

  • i don’t see why this advert received such high criticism i watched it for a couple of times but couldn’t find anything that would be subjected to such criticism
i guess some other cooperate company is behind the hype of this issue or else such adverts are really these days infact a few months ago our kids were singing a tune by a CONDOM company

  • much ado about nothing. Waste of time and bloggers energy. pls focus on issues that impact the future of Pakistan – you are the educated lot – pls use it for a better reason

  • Very good.

The ad was indeed very in-appropriate as it was spreading wrong doing for youngsters.

It’s good that they realized and taken it back. It takes quite strong heart to accept one’s mistake and then do the right thing.

Telenor is doing quite good in this area.

  • This is the responsiblity of sensor board to set boundries according to shariat, we demand our sensor board to be proactive not only on advertizements but all the things under their domain.

  • whats the use of regretting, how they have made this type of silly mistake. They should respect our women and our ethical values!

  • Telenor’s new TV commercial ‘internet more” is based on disgraceful words used against women who form more than 51% of the population of Pakistan. Labeling a college girl as “Taza Hawa Ka Jhonka”, it shows the degradation of society as a whole. It is a source of resentment and an assault on sanctity of women for many believing in social values.

The misuse of technology i.e. mobile internet service has been promoted unethically targeting immature minds of college and school going students. Setting aside the responsibility as a corporate entity, telenor preferred immoral language to promote its services among present and prospective users across the country.

  • people think that this ad is openly showing the flirting on internet and making parents to think twice to allow their children to use internet. And also what kind of activities they are involved on the internet. This ad is open invitation to spoil the society.

  • Dear All,
    AoA,
UFONE is displaying more vulgar TV Commercial Two culprits follow a girl who is walking cum dancing and culprits try to know her mobile number in very unethical it is more vulgar than other TVC.

PTA is requested to take notice of this.
