PTCL Doubles DSL Speed for 1 Mbps Users

PTCL logo1 PTCL Doubles DSL Speed for 1 Mbps Users Pakistan Telecommunication Company LTD (PTCL) has upgraded its 1 mbps connections to 2 mbps for all its existing and new broadband customers, said a company statement issued today.

Under the newly announced package, the 1 mbps connection has been powered up to 2 mbps for the same price of Rs. 1199 per month offering the experience of 2mbps speed to its customers for the rate of 1mbps.

This automatic up-gradation, which started rolling out back in January 2011 is valid for three months from Today (April 18th, 2011). After that period, if desired, the customers can switch back to 1 mbps by dialing 1236 and confirming it with the representative, or he/she can continue with 2 mbps speed with added charges.

SEVP commercial Naveed Saeed viewed this upgradation as a great pleasure for Pakistan Telecommunication Company to provide PTCL customers with an experience of 2mbps speed for the price of 1mbps. He stated:

“This upgradation supports our aim to provide uninterrupted service to all our existing and new customers at extremely affordable rates. This newly offered data rate will have an added effect of segmenting our customers.

Keeping in mind the needs of PTCL customers, we will introduce more such offers to facilitate the users in future; PTCL has always and will always strive to provide its customers with the best and most affordable services.”

PTCL Broadband packages now available for customers

1Mb @Rs 1,199
2Mb @Rs 1,499
4Mb @Rs 1,999
6Mb @Rs 4,999
8Mb @Rs 6,999
10Mb @Rs 9,999

Note: PTCL offers wi-fi routers for wireless internet with additional rental of Rs. 200 per month. However, this service has no extra cost for broadband customers having Smart TV.

This is really really bad unless they decide to call up each customer and let them know that they need to ask specifically for downgrade after 3 months, or at least call after 3 months asking for opt-in or opt-out instead of deciding it for themselves.

They should also offer 512kb and 256kb connections now (unlimited). 256kb is available for certain cities with 1GB download limit. its time to start 512kb and 256kb for less than 1000 and 500-600 so low end user can be benefited.

  In exchange they have devices called DSLAM which is other end of your DSL connection. DSLAM have limited number of ports. What PTCL want to do (and anyone else actually) is maximize revenue per port. It is not in their interest to offer lower connections for less price UNLESS there is a large market for it.

  Normal behaviour for PTCL. Remember when they gave everyone the NWD calling plan two years ago? And then started charging Rs 200 extra or something automatically.

  DSL by nature depends on the copper line coming to your place,i was having really bad service,I went to my exchange,put in a request to repair my line pairs and got a new cable to my house,never had any issues uptill now.Its been 3 years since i did that.

mine also upgraded but it is slow as hell now … it keep disconnecting and i hate it … i was happy with 1mb atleast it sucked but i did not had to worry about paying more for their crappy service… I hate ptcl , i hope we get a good fiber optic internet service in our area .

check your ptcl bill and notice DSL charges!

it would be good if admin can write/criticize on ptcl practice of changing price without advertising or prior notice to students, also on which ground are they changing price of student package while the regular package stay unchanged @ 1199 , and students are given 30% discount.

Thats nonsense! See the price difference between 4 MB and 6 MB.

4 MB is for 1999 while
6 MB is for 4999..!

Even 4999 for 8 MB was not acceptable.
It make no sense.

is there any consumer protection thing in Pakistan? (i mean properly working I know there but that is as corrupt as anything)

What the hell, PTCL doubling its speed is just a fake thing to me, there 3.1 MB EVO is even slow than many other 1 MB connections like Qubee etc.

What are they doing? I heard every connection share speed with many other connections specially in DSL so at the end consumer get way lower than 2 MB.

Is there any insight on this? is it just me or you guys agree that PTCL connection is way slower than what offers on paper?

we have to take step on the increasing amount of student package, the amount printed on the back of the bill is 850 and they are charging 880, hell…. and the actual 30% of 1199 is 839…. all fake, ptcl is fake…. we should protest otherwise they will increase the amount in the coming months also……

  you could try speedtest. also, login to your modem (probably http://192.168.1.1 and username password “admin”) and see the numbers. the up bandwidth figure will be much higher than your actual.
