PTCL to Invest in Fourth International Submarine Cable System

PTCL logoPakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has announced that it will invest in yet another international submarine cable consortium system in collaboration with leading operators in the region.

This cable will be spanning from Far East to Europe with multiple landing points in Middle East.

This will be fourth submarine cable system — that PTCL is part of – to connect Pakistan with rest of the world. This new under sea cable system is said to be encompassing a multimillion dollar investment.

PTCL said that it will be adding terabits of bandwidth in its international capacity through this cable, besides building redundancy to its existing international infrastructure on eastern and western side of the Arabian Sea.

This investment marks the vision of the Company to cater for the growing bandwidth demand of both consumer and corporate segments in the Country for Broadband and data services. The new cable link synergizes with PTCL’s three existing cable consortium systems including SMW3, SMW4 and IMEWE which connect Pakistan with rest of the world.

In this regard, a high level PTCL delegation recently attended the Consortium meeting to finalize the details of the upcoming cable system. It is anticipated that the agreement will be signed before the end of this year and the cable will be operational as early as in the last quarter of 2015.

This new cable system is expected to further boost the proliferation of broadband connectivity in Pakistan and meet the capacity needs of future applications spurring the development of information and communications technology in Pakistan.

More details, regarding capacity, investment size and partner operators of the undersea cable, are yet to come, which we will share with out readers as we will have them.

      • Don,t compere with prices if such then n UK can get n 36pnds Samsung Galaxy s4 cell with unlimited 4g data and unlimited call and sms .

          • You are wrong…No Dear PTCL offers in Pakistan @ Mbps (Mega Bit Per Second which have 128 Kbps in it) but in foreign countries they Offer MBPS (Mega Byte Per Second which have 1024 Kbps in it) So PTCL is too much expensive

        • in Bucharest romania they pay about 10$/month for 6 MB download and 2 MB upload speed Unlimited bandwidth. so your statement that ptcl is Among the Cheapest ISP WordWide is wrong 12$ for 256kbps download speed is not cheap lol and this is clearly not something that you should praise

        • No Dear PTCL offers in Pakistan @ Mbps (Mega Bit Per Second which have 128 Kbps in it) but in foreign countries they Offer MBPS (Mega Byte Per Second which have 1024 Kbps in it) So PTCL is too much expensive

  • PTCL should rather invest in improving its customer services. You have to wait 24 to 48 hours till your connectivity is resolved. While Nayatel’s exceptional performance only takes between 0 to 3 hours to solve it… Mind you Nayatel’s rates are much lower then PTCL and provide fiber to home service.

    • agree…. they should improve the infrastructure.. as we are still using copper wire. they are increasing broadband charges but lowering the quality. giving new connections over old lines is one of the main reason of poor connectivity and slow internet

  • I would really wish if PTCL could invest in improving service quality, Rather then we have to wait 48 hurs for every complain to be resolved, hire more professional line man. Technical staff on ground. Atleast big cities should be covered.

  • RIP Transworld. The company is finished. PTCL and Etisalat going to drive Transworld out of business.

    • Transworld can always sell itself to PTCL for sufficient profit. A sizeable investment like Transworld is not just landing station but people, process and systems. PTCL should buy this and replicate Transworld support system across all its 4 landing stations.

  • I do not understand the banter on this page, our memories are fading away with the passage of time. I remember how everybody was calling for blood when the submarine crisis took place not so long ago. And now if some contingency plan is being worked out, people again have a problem with that. I think this is the best solution to the speed problem we currently have in Pakistan. The investment will pay off when the time comes.

  • To cope up with future needs of internet users, yes they have to/must invest in much more such programs. However, ptcl would remain pathetic in its existence.
Then comes the government and IT ministry which is doing nothing to unblock youtube and stuff.

  • Ap sab ka khair hai yahan to mahene mein sirf 10 din ptcl net chalta hai baki 20 din nai chalta, mein Turbat ki baat kar raha hon
