Punjab government has announced new school timings in the province. They will be applicable to all government and private schools starting April 1st.

The School Education Department (SED) has sent out a notification, which directs schools to follow the new timings based on school categories:

  • Shift,
  • Timing,
  • Levels.

The new summer timings will be followed from April 1st to October 15th while the winter timings will be applicable between October 16th and March 31st.

Single and Double Shift School Timings

Single shift boys’ schools will start at 7:30AM throughout the week and close at 1PM from Monday to Thursday and on Saturday. The schools will remain open until 11:30AM on Fridays.

Single shift girls’ schools will start classes at 7:45AM everyday while closing times are 1:15PM from Monday to Thursday and on Saturday. Classes will end at 11:45AM on Fridays.

Schools with double shifts will start and end classes earlier. Morning shifts for both boys and girls schools will start at 7AM everyday while closing times are 12PM from Monday to Thursday and on Saturdays. Morning shift classes will take place between 7AM and 11AM on Fridays.

An Appreciable Move

As expected, schools timings have been changed so that schools start earlier when its cooler and students can avoid hot summer weather as much as possible by leaving for their homes earlier.

Early summer timings have become a tradition especially for schools in Punjab and Sindh. In recent times, it has become even more important as global warming and other factors have led to heat waves and unbearably hot summers.
