World’s Largest SSD Comes With 100TB of Storage Space

For people who can’t get enough storage for their PCs or Laptops comes an SSD from Nimbus Data.

The company is out with the world’s largest SSD (in terms of storage space) the ExaDrive DC100 which comes with 100 TB of storage. The target audience for this SSD would be large enterprises and businesses as regular Joe’s won’t need that much in the first place.

The previous record for the world’s largest SSD was held by Seagate’s 60 TB SSD, but it was a proof of concept and not a commercial product like the ExaDrive is.

Tech Specs

Being an SSD, you can also expect it to come with blazing fast transfer speeds. ExaDrive DC100 manages a read and write speed of 500 MB/s.

Power-wise, the DC100 is said to be 85% more efficient per terabyte compared to its rivals. In a workstation, it is expected to save space and heating by the same margin, too. A rack of these SSDs can provide up to over 100 petabytes of space.

ExaDrive DC100 is also long-lasting, with an expected time of 2.5 million hours between failures. It fits in conventional 3.5” slots, has power loss protection, and uses 14 W of power under operations (or 10 W while idle). It’s based on 3D NAND flash storage and uses a SATA 3.0 6 Gbps interface.

Blows Samsung Out of The Water

The announcement of the SSD comes just weeks after Samsung took home the previous record for the highest capacity SSD, which had a ”paltry” 30 TB of storage.

Nimbus Data is also releasing 10 TB and 50 TB versions later this year. Pricing details are not known, though, guarantees of up to five years are offered.
