Islamabad High Court Bans Reward Shows in Ramzan

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered all TV Channels to air Aazan (call to prayer) during Ramzan. The court pointed out that Aazan is the biggest breaking news for Muslims and noted that PTV has stopped airing it as well.

The court also put a ban on game shows like ‘neelam ghar’ during Ramzan transmissions which are trending high in the holy month. IHC Justice Shaukat Siddiqui added that Ramzan transmissions will be banned if they continue to air stuff like game shows.

The court is hearing a case regarding the code of ethics during Ramzan TV shows. IHC told that if the channels fail to comply by the PEMRA guidelines, their Ramzan transmissions will be banned.

PEMRA, on the other hand, assured the court that all channels will follow court’s decision of airing Aazan. The guidelines in this regard have already been forwarded to all channels on 4th May, DG PEMRA informed.

Judge’s Remarks

Justice Siddiqui seemed furious about the airing of game shows during Ramzan. The judge said;

No channel broadcasts the Azaan, and in fact show dance numbers and advertisements during that time. If this is how things will be, then we should remove the “Islamic Republic” title from the country’s name.

The hearing of the case will be resumed today i.e. 9th May. PEMRA is expected to submit a report regarding how many out of the 117 channels air Aazan, as per the court’s orders.

    • It is simple statement. Respect Ramadan as respected in other Muslim countries. Whats wrong with this? Why do you treat it is “sound fatwa to you”.

        • This is full responsibility of Islamic govt. Did you visited gulf countries, how such programs are controlled.

  • Finally, a much needed step….air some informative shows hosted by learned scholars instead

  • Good Step…. Restores the Sanctity of the Holy Month.

    Hope it is Implemented in Spirit.

  • Why the court is interfering in this broadcasting matter?
    TV Channels can air whatever content they want to as long as the content is allowed as per PEMRA. Game shows are allowed so court should not be dragging religion into this matter.

  • TV SHOW HOSTS WILL HAVE TO BEG FOR THEIR MONTHLY RAMAZAN NEEDS NO MORE MILLIONS IN THEIR KITTIES HAHAHAHAHAHA

  • May Allah SWT reward the judge greatly, ameen
    No doubt the whole spirit of Ramadan has been ruined by such shows.
