Telenor to Organize Internet Workshops in AJK

telenor_logoTelenor Pakistan is set to launch a nationwide project that will help empower a new digital generation in Pakistan.

Telenor Talkshawk I-Champ is a knowledge-based initiative that aims to provide learning and training to young people to enable them to become future proponents in the Digital Age.

In the first phase, internet workshops will be held in schools located in the semi-urban areas of Pakistan starting in Azad Jammu & Kashmir.

To mark the occasion a ceremony was held at a local hotel to formally welcome the Government of AJK as a partner of the initiative. The delegation from AJK was led by Chaudhary Abdul Majid, Prime Minister of Azad Jammu & Kashmir.

An MoU between Telenor Pakistan and Government of AJK regarding the holding of workshops in schools was signed by Aamer Izhar, Vice President Corporate Affairs & Security, Telenor Pakistan and Muhammad Sadiq Dar, Secretary Education, Government of AJK in the presence of senior officials.

Speaking at the ceremony, Telenor Pakistan’s Aamer Izhar thanked the AJK Prime Minister for supporting the Telenor Talkshawk I-Champ project. “This is proof that the Government of AJK is committed, at the highest level, to promoting digital awareness among the youth so that they are able to use modern technologies to compete as a global citizen anywhere in the world,” he said. “Through the project we intend to create a healthy and conducive learning environment for children, parents and school faculty.”

Muhammad Sadiq Dar, Secretary Education AJK in his remarks spoke about the importance of youth learning the positive use of technology. “The Government of Azad Jammu & Kashmir is committed to providing its citizens with quality education. Part of this is our youth becoming fully conversant with today’s digital technologies. So it is imperative that they are able to use the power of the internet for education and a brighter tomorrow for themselves and their families.”

Competitions will be held in select schools as part of the Telenor Talkshawk I-Champ project. Finalists of these competitions will get to visit Opera Labs in Norway to learn more about how the internet is being used by people around the world to gain and spread knowledge.
