Removed Chairman PTA Files Intra Court Appeal at LHC

Muhammad Farooq Awan, the removed Chairman of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has reportedly filed an intra court appeal (ICA) before Lahore High Court (LHC) against his suspension by a single bench, reported Daily Times.

Mr. Awan has plead that he was appointed as chairman of the Authority after the approval by the Prime Minister. In his appeal, Mr. Awan said that there was nothing illegal in his appointment as all rules and regulations were followed as per laws.

He maintained that Lahore High Court single bench of Justice Mansoor Ali Shah on December 31, 2012 declared his appointment null and void by terming it unlawful by setting aside the notification of his appointment.

Mr. Farooq Awan has now requested the court to set aside the single bench order and issue direction for his reinstatement as PTA chairman.

Earlier a petition filed by Khawaja Saad Saleem (of Nayatel) had challenged the appointment of Mr. Farooq Awan as Chairman PTA, against which Justice Mansoor Ali Shah (a single bench court) of Lahore High Court declared the appointment null and void.

The petitioner had pleaded that government did not fulfil the requirements for the appointment of chairman of PTA, as no ad was published in any publication for the mentioned post. Petitioner had maintained that appointment of Farooq Awan as Chairman PTA seemed on political basis, than of considering any merit. He had requested Court to declare the appointment as null and void.
