Mobipack: Simplifying the Selection of Mobile Packages

Package! This word triggers your brain with a sense of complication every time you hear that, init?

We all, while opting for a suitable cellular package get confused between the curves of validity, codes and availability, pricing etc. so we hunt the internet for information or get help for call center.

GOOD NEWS is.. you do not need to do it anymore.

For our convenience, there is this application available in the market for Android smartphones called “MobiPack”.

Now save yourself the trouble of remembering all the complicated short codes in order to subscribe or unsubscribe to call, SMS or internet packages.

This idea started as a fun app at ITU (Arfa Software Technology Park), got boosted on Startup Weekend Islamabad and was offered for the incubation in LUMs. It is now successfully running on Google Play Store and get a very positive feedback from users.

Mobipack Working & Functioning:

Simply install the app from Google Play Store, after installation it automatically detects your SIM connection and triggers the voice, SMS or internet packages that are available on your number by your cellular company.

Its UI is very clean and well organized and categorized.

The best part is that it is FREE! While using it you can check your remaining balance and the packages you are already using or are subscribed to, that too save you from worrying about any hidden charges or services which you have not voluntarily activated.

The advantages do not end here, you can also send bulk SMS and can block any number refraining it from sending you spam. The list of the options included:

  1. SMS Packages (Search is now supported to find out cheapest package available)
  2. GPRS – 3G & 4G Packages
  3. CALL Packages
  4. Other mobile services
  5. Donations
  6. Emergency numbers
  7. News feed
  8. Check balance
  9. Load balance
  10. Share balance
  11. Block SMS
  12. Set Ringtone on specific number
  13. Sync contacts on server

unnamed

The developer Centsol, a Lahore based company, has also provided the users with easy to use options for loading and transferring your balance, playing with the ringtones.

You can also make a backup of your contacts data.

Yes, newly launched 3G Bundles are already included in the packages and you can select and subscribe to any 3G bundles available with your respective operator.

The best thing we liked the most about the application was a counter for internet and SMS usage. This app can keep track of all the data consumed over EDGE or 3G networks. WiFi data isn’t accumulated, hence giving you a fair idea about the real-time status of your bundle consumption. A similar counter is available for text messages as well.

Currently the app doesn’t support any postpaid plans and in fact postpaid subscribers are also offered with prepaid bundles to choose from, which we believe should be rectified.

As for now, the user reviews are pretty positive and welcoming. Considering this, possible future upgrade is expected.

On a related note, cellular companies should get inspired from the app so they may come up with their official apps for similar processes. Or even better, they should partner with MobiPack to avoid inventing the wheel.

    • Yup, postpaid users aren’t shown the postpaid plans. Mentioned in the post as well.

      • BTW! what about spying our data on regular intervals?

Every message or call that we will make you are saving that damn info in your cloud database!

Not just this, you will spy everything… if not now maybe after getting so much installs through promotional blog posts.

  • This is really amazing development, particularly the feature of tracking the 3G/EDGE data usage. Great work developers!

  • can i subscribe/unsubscribe offers, sms bundles and change tariff plan via this app or its just for information only?

    • Yes you can. This app will send SMS to designated numbers for subscription/un-subscription.

Meaning that, this app will take control to subscribe to packages on your behalf. Usual charges will apply.

    • Yes you can. This app will send SMS to designated numbers for subscription/un-subscription. Thanks Aamir for the reply . :)

Keep in touch for your value able feedback in future at [email protected]

      • What about SMS & Call bundles validity? the app should be alarmed users if their packages are about to expire, it will be great.

Please add this feature as well, by the way its a nice idea & app is great.

      • Please add (pinned) notification Alert feature on status bar for remaining SMS and notification for expiry date of SMS package before one day and at the time of expiry.

    • Nope. All charges are based on usual tariffs from cellular companies.

Or if I put this in other words, app will only help you in getting things done. Charges will apply as per usual tariffs.

      • TELCOS should develop their own Customer Care apps like this for up-to-date info and offering new packages based on customer usage pattern.

        • Zong already has one which also offers free balance check, sim registration details, call, sms and gprs logs

          • If Zong short code provide free balance checking facility, It will also be free in this app. This app is not charging something extra.

          • no, they have ecare portal on their website, i am talking about stand alone (android, iOS.. etc) app like mobipack

    • Idea copied!!! try searchin on playstore with names of “MOBILINK CODES” or “MOBILINK 3G Pakistan”…. They copied their idea… other features are almost fake… as can’t block sms, can’t send bulk sms

      • Simple check to see who’s idea is copied.

1 – Go to google play and see the oldest comment on the application.

you will find “MOBILINK 3G Pakistan” is launched in May 2014

2- and you will find that “Mobipack” is ther from January 2014

So please do your research before blaming some one of copying idea :)

  • I just installed the app, I just loved it, There are 5000+ uploads already and its just gonna explode. What they have done till now is awesome, they just need to keep it updating frequently, so outdated offers are removed and new offers are added on regular bases.

    • Thanks you so much for such feedback. We are updating it frequently. Hope you will have the good experience in future IA. Please give your more suggestions at [email protected]

      • I sure will, also plan to use app for long if it works well for me. Thanks for what you did till now. Ad revenue (implemented/to be implemented in future) for you is one thing but app really helps its users.

    • Mobipack’s interface is a better. You know interface is not everything, it’s quality that matters. It is just the first version like Windows 1.0. Later version will gain momentum soon akin Windows 8.1 Metro.

      • How soon? Windows 8.1 came 27 years after Windows 1.0. So unless you think waiting this long is OK, please stop giving irrelevant examples.

        • Brother! If you don’t like Mobipack App, who is forcing you to use it.

        • ap jesay bhai feedback dain gaay to koi cheez improve ho gi na :-) 80’s main ginti ke kuch log thay computer use kernay walay, feedback bhee slow thee, aub her cheez ka scale different hai , ap ko 27 saal wait nahi kerna paray ga … I hope :-)

          • feedback kya den idea copy kya hai other apps ka! interface bs guzara hai, woh b copied e hna hai. aur kafi sari options to just app download krwany k lye hn ksi kaam ki to hen nhi

            • Our application is on market from January. and the application you are talking about is came in may after the launch of 3G – So our application can’t be copy of that application. I know personally that guy who developed that application. and he was present in the event at “Islamabad start-up weekend” where we presented this application publicly. So please do your research before blaming some one of copying idea :)
              Thanks

      • So basically what you are saying is we keep going back to the roots. If thats the case then angry birds would have been 8bit, Interface is extremely important. We are living in a world is all about interfaces, if the interface is good the application will be easier to use.
i never expected you to write such an idiotic comment

  • Great work by Centsol. And thanks propakistani for informing us about this usefull app.

    • 1) share is working.
      2) bulk sms is working
      3) block sms is working – just need to provide full number with country code. like(+92xxxxxxxxxxxx)
or just the service number in can case of short code. like 7777
      4) it download emergency numbers only for one time not again and again

    • BTW for Ufone the code to check remaining data is *706#, they should implement the feature for autochecking remaining SMS’s and MB’s for the currently subscribed sms/3g package.

        • Checking available free sms calls 606 with no response from the other end.
I actually meant the meter on the bottom should auto check the total remaining sms/mb so that the we can see our usage. For now we need to enter manually.

          • No this is not work in this way. the user have to tell the package size and notification limit only for one time then the app will auto calculate the usage of SMS or GPRS

            • Not one time, users who are already using any package will have used some of their quota. E.g. if my current available quota is 764 MB’s out of 1024 MB’s, I will set the total to 764 of course.
And next time before the cycle restarts I will have to ‘re-enter’ total MB.
Same goes for the sms package. So this sucks, it should auto detect available MB/SMS.

              • :) this is a good idea but we can’t read that message content from the mobile service provider. as this is not possible event in android. Google is considering this option but still this feature is not available :)

                • Oh are you one of the developers ? I think it is possible because whatsapp and Viber also auto verify from the received message.
Anyways I hope this feature is added soon.

                  • yes it is possible if the network provider send data in SMS and also follow some specific rules. But as you may know they will not provide us such things :) at least at this stage but may be later.

                    • Well you can try requesting, cause without this feature that bottom graph is kinda useless as both android and apple phones have data management.

  • What is load balance feature? Sorry if it is already mentioned but please tell me.
