Almost a year has passed since Motorola announced the most-iconic budget phone of current era, the Moto G. With the pace with which technology moves, it was clear that an upgrade was needed and now that has arrived in the form of the new Moto G (2014).
The new phone comes with a larger display, a higher-resolution camera and expandable storage, to name a few changes.
The AMOLED display, apart from being of better quality, is notably bigger at 5”. It packs the same 720p resolution this time, which leads to a pixel density of 294ppi. It also comes with dual-stereo speakers at the front this time, as well as removable covers.
Under the hood, you get the same 1.2Ghz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor with 1 GB RAM. The storage is set at either 8 or 16 GB, though it is expandable by up to 32 GB this time around via microSD card slot.
The camera on this year’s Moto G is upgraded to an 8 megapixel sensor, which is capable of shooting 720p videos with HDR. There’s also a flash, while a 2 mp camera sits at the front.
The new phone comes with Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.0 LE but unfortunately no NFC (you can’t really complain though).
The OS version running will be near-stock Android 4.4 KitKat, though the new ‘L’ version will be making its way soon. The battery storage is set at 2,070 mAh.
Pricing is set at $179.99 for the starting model, though with expandable storage, you should be quite happy with that as well. We don’t know about additional dual-sim, 4G LTE and other versions just yet but they can’t be too far either.
You can’t help but think that Motorola has done it again. Given the current trend of large displays, the new phone will help the company get a broader audience, while also remain faithful to the current norm.
To conclude with, we aren’t sure if Moto G will surface on Pakistani shelves officially or not.
