Allied Bank Selects Oracle to Run Its Core Banking Applications

Allied Bank Limited has selected Oracle Exadata Database Machine and Oracle ZFS Storage ZS3-2 to replace its core banking hardware infrastructure with a scalable, high-performance solution to help accelerate its critical close of business processes and reduce cost.

ABL was experiencing performance issues in running its core banking application. Due to the high number of transactions in the Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) system, processing for critical close of business was taking more time, affecting its important reporting processes. Another critical concern for the bank was the cost of scaling its existing solution in view of its aggressive expansion plans.

By implementing Oracle Exadata Database Machine with Oracle ZFS Storage ZS3-2 for backup and recovery, the bank aims to significantly accelerate their OLTP performance, protect its data, and speed up their critical close of business processes such as daily transaction, calculating and posting interests, rolling the bank date forward and production of various reports.

“A highly available and reliable IT infrastructure is critical for any bank to provide innovative services and products to its customers in a timely and efficient manner,” said Mujahid Ali, Chief – Information Technology Group, Allied Bank. “We found Oracle’s solution much simpler, smarter and cost effective than its competitors and we plan to satisfy the requirements and demands of our diversified clientele by offering them excellent services at a reduced infrastructure cost and without compromising on the quality and performance of service.”

“Oracle understands that its customers, especially in the banking industry, need to perpetually evolve and provide cutting-edge services to their customers in order to gain the competitive advantage. Having a robust and effective infrastructure is a necessity for them,” said Waqas Hashmi, Country Director – Technology Business, Oracle Pakistan. “We are confident that ABL can reduce their cost and storage footprint and improve customer satisfaction by leveraging the highly available, secure and reliable Oracle Exadata Database Machine and Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance.”

Moreover, this deployment will simplify and accelerate the scaling up of their solution at a reduced total cost of ownership (TCO), while further easing the manageability for both hardware and software.

Oracle Exadata Database Machine will help deliver a fully integrated database platform with the latest hardware technologies and unique software providing the bank with the highest performing and most available platform that can run most types of database workloads including online transaction processing (OLTP) and daily batch reporting efficiently.

Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance, with its deep integration with Oracle Exadata Database Machine and Oracle Database, will provide the bank with the enterprise-class network-attached storage (NAS) capabilities to simplify storage management and protect its data at reduced cost and storage footprint while using much less energy yet delivering high performance and high availability.

Oracle Advanced Customer Support (ACS) Services will deploy the solution at Allied Bank to help the company maintain and maximize performance of all Oracle mission critical applications, delivering greater IT efficiencies at reduced cost.
