A number of users are complaining that they are receiving spam emails from ARY News in which, the famous TV channel is advertising about its program “Off The Record” which is hosted by TV anchor, Kashif Abbasi. Email spamming for an already famous TV program by ARY News is yet another third grade, shabby and unprofessional way of getting high ratings.
Pakistani media is being massively polarized in the current political scene on Pakistan. Majority of TV channels are a victim of Advocacy Journalism. Things started to fall off the quality grid swiftly after Hamid Mir, Geo TV anchor survived an assassination attempt back in April.
The Nawaz regime and establishment forces are endowing their support for their favorite channels, which has given rise to open rivalry and unprofessional practices on TV. The trend has made all the programs rating oriented.
Email Marketing, without consent, is illegal everywhere in the world, but since Pakistan lives without a cyber law, organizations such as ARY TV are exploiting the internet users in Pakistan
The latest mass spamming by ARY News is the depiction of the deteriorating ads ethics upheld by the media.
The spam email ad by ARY News has a signature of “Advert Nama”, an online media ads agency. The poster of the ad brags about ratings and shows ARY having top ratings as compared to Dunya News, Express News and Geo News in the form of a graph. The use of a low grade email marketing service is yet another low point for journalism in Pakistan.
Pakistan Electronic Media Regularity Authority must take necessary action to put an end to ad spamming, which has already overtook TV, and now making its way to internet and social media.
Well, as long as the unsubscribe button is there it should be alright.
You have to understand, these are not reliable or good marketing companies. All the unsubscribe button does is tell the marketers that they have a “good” target email address, one that is active.
So they will send you more spam.
Good marketing companies won’t do that, but good ones don’t use throwaway gmail accounts either.
I agree 100%. I work in content marketing and we only send emails to those who have given us their email willingly (with our names most of the times) and with authentic unsubscribe button.

@Aamir not exactly. The laws varies from country to country. Even each of the country in europe have different Anti Spam legislation. Canadian Anti Spam Law called CASL fightspam.gc.ca. It is one of the tough law to protects its citizen from unsolicited emails.
Only purpose of the article is to defame ARY News because the screenshot clearly shows a gmail address instead of a Company Email. Which means it is not sent by ARY itself.
I wouldnt be shocked if some Geo employee had written this.

For example every month or so I receive an email from Razikar or some spelling like that. I have no idea how I ended up on there list. It is a valid company, they have presence on linkedin, and they ALWAYS send spam with a different dummy gmail account.

He’s not trying to imply that. The thing is, advertnama is an ad agency, which has a list of several email addresses, and sends emails to all its senders. User needs not to be subscribed to it, but HAS THE OPTION TO UNSUBSCRIBE to all of its emails. I was subscribed once to it due to my error and opt out later on and since then I haven’t received any emails from them. It’s up to the user to OPT OUT! Also, not only ARY, other channels, as well as several other brands advertise themselves via advertnama. This is not something needing to be highlighted, nor it is news…
We have reported about others too. Mainstream channel like ary shouldn’t adopt illegal ways to market their shows, that’s all we wanted to highlight.
Please point out another channel which you have reported. I’ve always supported ProPK and loved your articles 99.9% of the times. But this is pure defamation, mate. I’ve seen several other TV Channels including Geo and Dunya advertise via AdvertNama. Lots of other brands do the same, defaming ARY isn’t appropriate. Everyone’s got a right to advertise themselves. H*ll, even I can advertise myself for nothing!
You can report us the same and we won’t hesitate in exposing other channels. BTW we have written against Ethiad, Nokia and more about email spamming, and majority of them refrained from this approach after we highlighted.

Emails addresses are easily spoofed.. these people run large business and care about little things which you people even don’t understand.. their are marketing companies with millions of Emails and mobile no. lists to send Email and SMS for advertising and other purposes… packages are available according to content and frequency of messages to be sent.
