Smartphones We Are Looking Forward To In 2015

The pace at which technology is evolving, especially in consumer products, is astonishing. With 2014 in the past, the anticipation for what is next in consumer tech is high. CES 2015 will be held in Las Vegas in a couple of days from now and many consumer tech rumors will either prove to be true or will be put to rest.

Here we look at what the future might hold for one of the most evolving consumer tech product, the smartphone. If not revealed at CES 2015, expect a good number of these to be unveiled at Mobile World Congress 2015. This is a list of 5 phones that we are really looking forward to.

HTC One (M9/HIMA)

The next HTC One model, if HTC keeps in line with the series naming, will be the M9. The M8 was greatly appreciated for its sleek aluminum body and the word is that the M9 will also be on the same lines when it comes to design.

One of the leaks regarding the new phone in the HTC One series describe its dimensions slightly larger than its predecessor. The phone will probably have some sort of water proofing as well to compete with Sony and Samsung, its major competitors.

The HTC M9 is expected to retain all the qualities of the HTC One M8 and make it even better

If the word on the internet is to be believed, we would probably be looking at a QHD display i.e., 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution. This would a battery drainer but HTC is known to take the plunge and has always managed to do really well in this department. The processor would most probably be an Octa-core 64-bit Snapdragon 810, Qualcomm’s latest and greatest offering. Though there isn’t much news about battery, it is believed to be around 2840mAh.

Something that we are sure about is that the new HTC One will launch with Android 5.0 and a refreshed version of Sense. With Beats joining hands with Apple, another surety is HTC pairing up with Bose for the speakers as HTC with its previous models has shown how serious they are about audio quality on their devices. Expect huge advancements in phone optics; there could be a 20.7MP sensor for the camera.

LG G4

LG’s earnings over the course of the last two years have gone up by almost 112% thanks to a major role played by their smartphone sales.

We expect an awesome 2K bezel free screen, meaning G4 will have an edge to edge display. As far as the processing power is concerned we are pretty sure that G4 would have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chip and 4GB of RAM. LG is also expected to go full metal unibody route with waterproofing. Again with the higher resolution the battery is also expected to be more powerful. If the camera is an improvement on the one in G3, this would be a phone we would love to really get our hands on.

Samsung Galaxy S6

This powerhouse of a smartphone is also rumored to have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor. S6’s pictures have been leaked on the net under the codename “Project Zero”; the project name under which Samsung is putting together the S6.

Just like LG G3, news is S6 would also have a 2560 x 1440p QHD double edged display. The secrecy around the S6 and its project name do indicate that Samsung might be developing its latest flagship device with a totally new vision and set of ideas and might go for a couple of industry firsts.

Samsung is expected to go with premium materials and industry-first tech for the Galaxy S6

The bezels are expected to be further streamlined, slim with more rounded corners. An important factor affecting the design for S6 would be lower than expected sales for S5, hence Samsung would probably be going for premium materials for its body.  Sources in Samsung’s supply chain have hinted at a premium metal design body for the S6. Coming to the OS though there has been much talk about Tizen but Samsung will probably be sticking to Android.

Sony Xperia Z4 Ultra

According to reports on the net, Sony is going to unveil Xperia Z4 at CES 2015. If you take a look at the concept designs/leaked designs of the phone on the net, it looks pretty simple but the beauty lies at the back. Xperia Z4 is rumored to have 22 or 24 megapixels, with Sony Lens G, 10x optical zoom and a Xenon flash, much like it’s fabulous Cybershot digital cameras series.

The concept images feature two front stereo speakers and the phone is almost bezel free. Z4 is rumored to have a 5.4-inch quad HD Triluminos display, Snapdragon 805 or 810processor paired with 4 GB RAM, Android 5.0 Lollipop OS, 3.2-megapixel front-facing shooter; and 3300 mAh battery. There are also reports of the phone being launched with another Xperia model, the Z4 compact.

With upgraded internals and the same sensor as Cybershot digital cameras, the Z4 Ultra is expected to make a splash

As with all our lists please do let us know in the comments section about the smartphones you are looking forward to the most this year. We will be updating this article as the official specifications of the smartphones get confirmed at CES 2015 and MWC later on.
