Telenor Pakistan and CMPak have signed an agreement to share their optical fiber networks across Pakistan, revealed Michael Foley, CEO Telenor Pakistan on his Facebook page earlier today.
Mr. Foley said that this resource sharing agreement between both the companies will enable Telenor Pakistan and CMPak to share fiber optic network to meet growing data demands.
Telenor CEO said that 3G services have created a lot of demand for transmission capacity and getting fiber to a large number of sites is absolutely critical. This gets further crucial in several tougher terrains across the country.
“With our strategy of ‘working smartly’, Telenor got an agreement with Zong, which gives us both big benefits on realizing synergies while at the same time making hundreds of kilometers of deployed fibre available to each other”, said Micheal Foley.
With growing market demands and narrowing margins, Pakistani telcos are aggressively considering asset sharing strategies and this fiber optic sharing agreement between Telenor and Zong is an effort from both operators to leverage each other while keeping costs at par.
Telenor said that this arrangement with Zong was made possible by strategy and technology teams of both the companies, supported by a cross functional team of experts from Finance, Regulatory, Legal, Sourcing and other functions.
