Does It Make Sense to Relaunch Punjab Online Job Portal?

The Labour and Human Resource Department of Punjab has started advertising about an online job portal. The website aims to provide a platform for job seekers and employers both, hoping to minimise the unemployment rate in the country.

How does it Work?

Companies looking for staff or people in search of jobs can go here and register their accounts on the portal.

Job seekers will be asked further details regarding their professional qualifications. Candidates can add their qualifications, experience and other relevant information that will let organisations determine whether the candidate is suitable for the job vacancy they’ve advertised. At the time of writing, there’s a handful of private and government jobs advertised on the website.

Organisations can post jobs on the portal detailing their job requirements and what the position holds for the candidate. The process of application is easy and similar to what is available on several other job websites.

Is the Punjab Online Job Portal Viable?

Although, the job portal is adequate for finding jobs, it is difficult to understand the funds and efforts that have gone into this website. Developed by FutureNow Technologies, the web portal must have cost a lot of money to the Punjab government. That and the vast amounts of money being spent on its promotion makes little sense.

Online job portals like Rozee.pk, Asani.com.pk and several others have been around for years and do a great job of advertising jobs and connecting professionals. Their popularity is evident from the fact that some of them have exclusive agreements with several private companies to list their jobs at the respective online job portals.

With such intense and established competition, the entry of a new jobs portal with a relatively outdated design and quality seems like a PR stunt. The website isn’t standalone and comes as a sub-domain to the Punjab Labour website, making it difficult to find on search engines. For a website that has been around for 2 years and languishing, advertising for the same seems ill-advised. It seems to be a white elephant of a project to resuscitate.

  • Yet again Aamir Sb showing his bias against ruling government. Atleast write some quality content

  • Even in the footer of site, you can see the copyright 2013, which i noticed yesterday and was arguing with my colleagues here that it existed earlier.

However, this is not first time PMLN is taking credit of things previously existed.
    1. KSE islamic index which PMLN claims to launch today, existed from 2008 and it have hundreds of companies listed to it.

    2. Those iron/gold reserves in chiniot punjab which were re advertised few months back, they were known from earlier.

    3. Last year they claimed to launch pakistan’s first wind power plant, which already existed..and more were part of same plan

    4. this site..

  • i cam across this reading, and yes it is good step from the punjab government to launch such kind of portal for jobless pakistani, i think sindh kpk government should also think about this.
