Samsung’s upper mid-range Galaxy A-series has quickly risen through the ranks to gain a unique place in the market. The first phones of the series, the A3, A5 and A7 are being refreshed for the new year, with the inclusion of some high-end features to justify it’s A Series moniker.
The series still features premium designs, which continue to be its headlining feature, but now they also bring fingerprint scanners, Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and Near Field Communication (NFC) to the table. All A models will run on Android 5.1 Lollipop.
The A3, lying at the lowest end of the food chain, comes with a 4.7” display with 720p resolution. It comes with a Super AMOLED panel, instantly making the A3 with one of the best budget screens around.
It comes with a 1.2 Ghz quad-core processor, with 1.5 GB of RAM and 16 GB internal storage. You get a 13-megapixel camera on the back with a 5 MP camera on the front, with both having f/1.9 aperture. It lacks OIS and fingerprint scanner, however, but tries to make up for it with LTE Cat.4 (market-dependent) and a 7.3mm thin shell.
The mid-tier phone in this range comes with a 5.2” Super AMOLED display with Full HD resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. Under the hood, you get a 1.6 Ghz octa-core processor, with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB worth storage.
At the back is a 13-megapixel sensor with OIS, along with a 5 MP camera on the front. Connectivity includes NFC, LTE Cat.6 (depending on market) while a fingerprint scanner is also thrown in the mix. You can fast-charge its battery, a major addition given its skimpy 2,900 mAh capacity. It is also just 7.3 mm thin.
The highest-end of the 2016 A-series lineup comes with a 5.5” Super AMOLED display with Full HD resolution. It supports LTE Cat.6 and NFC for connections, as well as a fingerprint scanner.
Under the hood, you get the same 1.6 Ghz octa-core processor as the A5. The cameras are the same here, too, though the battery capacity is increased at 3,300 mAh and supports fast-charging. You do get an impressive 3 GB of RAM here however with 16 GB of internal storage.
The pricing details of these phones are under wraps as of now. With the availability of these phones to start at April of next year, we’ve got long wait ahead of us. Rest assured, these Samsung smartphones will be eagerly awaited.
