Pakistan’s Parliament House Gets Fully Powered by Solar Energy

Pakistan’s Parliament House is going to be powered by Solar Energy with-in ongoing month to become first parliament house in the region to run on solar power, we have checked.

Solar energy project for powering parliament of Pakistan, as per information we have received, will be fully operational by mid-December or around.

After completion of project, majority of power needs of Parliament House will be fulfilled through this solar energy plant.

The project is being funded by the Chinese government as a gesture of friendship and an acknowledgement of the longstanding Pak-China friendship.

According to details, project was completed with over Rs. 500 million, that is sponsored by Chinese government.

The estimated cost of the project stood at Rs. 500 million, while it will save Rs. 28 million per year in energy costs

According to details, current power needs of Parliament House are around 1.8MW, out of which 1MW will be supplied through this solar energy plant. Additionally, efforts will be made to cut the power needs so that this 1MW solar energy could ultimately become the sole power provider for the parliament house.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chinese President Xi Jinping, along with National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani, had collectively inaugurated the project during the Chinese president visit to Pakistan earlier this year.

The work on the project is being carried out at fast pace and is likely to be completed by mid December. The project management team of the National Assembly Secretariat is in close liaison with its Chinese counterpart in executing the work and deficiencies, if any, are regularly pointed out, which are redressed by the Chinese team.

After commissioning, the project would generate electricity to reduce the expenditure on utility bills of the parliament building in tune of Rs. 28 million per year.
