Huawei’s new Honor Band A1 offers UV Detection for Cheap

The new Honor V8 wasn’t the only device which Huawei announced at its China event; a new wearable called Honor Band A1 has also made an appearance.

The new wearable is a fitness tracker aimed at people who want to look good while working out. It features the usual sleuth of fitness tracking activities, including, the steps taken, distance covered, calories burnt, sleep-tracking, exercising routines and more. In what it differs is through its ability to detect radiation in your surroundings, thanks to its embedded UV sensor and then prescribing a sunscreen. Quite intuitive if you ask us.

Apart from that, it can also work from your wrist to notify you of any incoming calls or texts. The Honor Band A1 doesn’t come with a display for you to peer. Rather it features only a single LED light as well as haptic feedback to notify you of its presence (it weighs just 20 grams). You probably shouldn’t be too worried about protecting it either, since the band features IP57 certification for dust and water-proofing.

The connectivity is done via Bluetooth 4.2, which allows you up to 28 hours of backup from its 70 mAh battery. Charging duties are carried out via a microUSB port underneath.

There is a wide array of colors (8 as of writing) to choose from, as well as a choice of either silicon or leather straps. Pricing is set at just $15 (Rs. 1,600 approx) for the former, while more premium leather ones will set you back by $30 (Rs. 3,000 approx.).

  • how does it compares to mi band 1S which provides heart rate sensor as well with up to a month of battery life in similar price range?
