Telenor Pakistan has submitted its bid for the auction of 3G/4G spectrum in 850 MHz band just moments ago.
Telenor Pakistan, as of now, is be the only bidder for the spectrum auction, we have checked with sources at PTA.
It maybe recalled that PTA will be auctioning 10MHz block from 850MHz spectrum on June 20th at a base price of USD 395 million, for which today is the last date for submitting the bids.
Mobilink, Ufone and Zong aren’t participating in the spectrum auction, we have checked officially.
Since there’s no other bidder, Telenor Pakistan is likely to get the spectrum at base price (or even at a lower value — depending on any co-channel interference)
We will update our readers with more details on spectrum auction as they will be available.

4G on 850 MHz means low maintinance cost. 1 tower will have more coverage of 4g than Zong and Moblink due to 1800 MHz

It is not feasible to run HSPA+ services means 3G on this frequency.
I reckon parts of 700MHz spectrum in Pakistan are under military use.
If Its true Miltary can use only 20 MHz, we can auction 40 to 60 MHz and still can avoid interference.
I think that band would be superior in terms of coverage, as we can expect better 4g reception but speeds would be compromised due to less bandwith

u cant ignore telenor which is backed by experienced professionals and heavy financials. telenor entered at No 4 in Pakistan but today it is No. 2 by market share. now telenor may give tough time to mobilink and zong with 4G.

The lower we go in frequency the better it is in terms of building or Foliage penetration. Zafar Abbas gave an incomplete answer, Frequency has nothing to do with bandwidth .A 10 MHz bandwidth (think of it as width of a pipe) in 850MHz or 1800 MHz will give you same bitrate from the Mobile tower (provided channel conditions are same for both freqencies) but the reason why a user would get higher data rate with higher frequency is because coverage of mobile tower with higher frequency will be less, which mean less number of users sharing the bandwidth.

Progressed countries like USA and Korea myn LTE hamesha 2-3 Frequencies pe chalaya jata hai. One on a low frequency like 700 or 900 kyun k unki range ziada hoti hai aur strong signals hotay hyn like room aur basements myn b pooray signals aatay hyn. Laikin low frequency pe interference ziada hoti hy es liye speed pe asar parrta hy aur filtars require hotay hyn, us ko cover karne k liye saath barri frequency like 1800 aur 2600 use ki jaati hai. Jis ki wajah se wahan speed ziada aati hai. So 700 is best for range and 2600 is best for speed. Aur hum dono ko use nai kar rahay.
It will have better coverage due to lower frequency but I reckon technically 1800 MHz is better, because in city areas it will be difficult to restrict 850 MHz band coverage in targeted area, thus interference might be higher.

Such a small spectrum in a low frequency band will only mean better coverage than 1800 or 2100, but also half the bandwidth.

Telenor didn’t buy 1800 Mhz for 210m USD….. a better frequency for 4G .. now when the competition is tough and getting ahead andbetter.. they have no choice but to buy 850Mhz at 395m USD… the question is will PTA sell at base price or will they have some interference issues and Telenor will only pay a lesser fee…. Lets see… Also do we have good 850 Handsets in the market ..I am not sure its the case…

Below is list of UK operators that won 4G licences in 2013. you can see 800 Mega-Hz band is far more expensive than 2.6 Giga-Hertz frequency. e.g British Telecom (BT) got more bandwidth than Hutchison 3G (3Mobile) but paid less
