Budget 2016-17: Taxes on Mobile Phone Increased to Up to Rs. 1,500

Government of Pakistan has increased taxes on mobile phones. This was announced in the federal budget for 2016-17.

As per initial details, mobile phone — based on their feature set — will be taxed at Rs. 300, Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 1,500

Earlier on taxes on Mobile phones were Rs. 300, Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 based on their feature sets.

It won’t be out of place to mention that federal government had doubled the taxes on mobile phone just last year. And now they have increased the taxes yet again.

It must be recalled that country is currently embarking smartphone uptake. Smartphone penetration has doubled to an estimated 35 to 40% in less than two years after the start of 3G and 4G services in the country.

  • This will severely increase the cost of the imported phones and will affect the new companies entering into this market negatively.

  • Good that’s shows the priorities of the govt. This will only increase new and second hand smartphone smuggling. Already Pakistani markets are filled with stolen LG g2,g3 with fake imei.
