Pakistan Broadcasters Association Join Forces to Oppose DTH Auction

After cable operators called a strike against Direct to Home (DTH) services being offered in the country, the Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA) has also expressed its opposition against the same.

PBA, it should be mentioned, represents all the licensed media channels in Pakistan. Their opposition to the DTH auction process may result in increased pressure to call off the auction altogether.

To this effect, the PBA has taken out an ad in newspapers, listing the reasons why it is against PEMRA’s decision to go ahead with the DTH auction in the coming days.

It should be recalled that DTH services may bring in more revenue to the national exchequer as well as give consumers superior quality tv channels that take advantage of current technology and TVs. However, as the PBA puts it “PEMRA has overlooked several things while deciding the DTH auction and companies that can participate in the bidding”.

  • What a stupid, stupid position. There is a thing called ‘Conflict of Interest’ and secondly local companies will own majority stake in all DTH-ventures. Aur mujhe lag rha tha ke sirf cable vale pagal ho gaye hain.

  • Majority of people can’t afford DTH services right now. I think regular cable service should remain in effect even after DTH. Like several internet services DTH can be option for people who want quality.

  • cable ki services poorly Pakistan main maujood nahi Hain.bahut se dehati elaqay aisay hain jahan cable ki sahoolat nahi.jab k DTH har jaga maujood ho ga.es liey cable walon se guzarish hai k wo logon pe rehm karain aur achi cheez es mulk main anay dain.

    • Absolutely. Everyone is acting like a monopolist. They are not willing to cop with new technology. By hook or by crook, they have to adopt it. Young doctors ko doctors kehna, professional doctors ki insult krne jesa he ha.

  • Time to block canal road with “sarak ke darmiyan laash rakh ker”, dharnas, sit ins shits and bull crap…Koi achii cheez Pakistan mein na anay deina BC !

  • shame on these so-called associations (Mafias) for their petty interest they wanna stop the step of progress and prosperity of the country. Shame on PBA and Cable association. We should all boycott their channels until the DTH is launched. I request Social Media activists to start campaigning against these mafias and boycotting their channels until DTH is officially launched.

  • Ishaq dar need money to fullfil budget defficit. He met with Cable operators association and refused to stop auction a week ago. So don’t worry guys auction will be held on time because Govt need money right now.

  • Screw Cable operators and broadcasters hard… they are taking Pakistan backwards…DTH is one good thing and PEMRA should not back down from it. Listen to the consumers.

  • An other supporter of India DTH. So unfortunate that most educated persons are against the development of pak, the new era and better and advanced degital pak.

  • what a sh*t monopoly,
please bring global english channels i will be happy to skip this pakistani shiz

  • Good. PEMRA se darkhawast hai k jo Channels is faislay per PBA ka sath dain un tamam channels ka licence muatal krdiye jayen. yeah dheet log tab hi seedhe hongay jaise dekha na kis tarah dhamki kaam ayi aur fauran indian content ban hogaya.

  • To me why Pakistan Broadcaster Association is opposing DTH auction. As PEMRA has banned all Indian content to be broadcasted by any private TV channels operating within country. This might be a pressure game from PBA. Everyone in media is a black mailer. We want DTH.

  • Pemra should give the licenses to local companies instead of foreign. PBA is doing right. agar Indian content allowe nahin hai tou bahr ki companies b allowed nahe honi chahiyen. foreign companies ka koi right nai k wo pakistani channels ko apne under karain. I am with cable operators and PBA
