Lenovo did not only announce new gaming systems. The company’s traditional laptop market is also getting some love, in the form of the new ThinkPad X1 Yoga, ThinkPad X1 Carbon and ThinkPad X1 Tablet.
We take a look at how Lenovo is beefing up its laptops and tablet models for 2017.
ThinkPad X1 Yoga
The new convertible comes with a 14-inch display on the front with either FHD or WQHD options in both OLED and IPS. The processor here is a 7th-generation Intel Core Kaby Lake processor with up to 16 GB LPDDR3 RAM, 1 TB SSD and either Intel HD Graphics 620 or 640.
There’s a fingerprint scanner and an IR camera with face recognition. Connectivity options include optional NFC, LTE-A, 2 Thunderbolt 3 Type-C, 3 USB 3.0, HDMI, microSD and microSIM card slots. The battery life is said to last up to 16 hours (10.5 on the OLED version).
Pricing is set at $1499 for the base model.
Lenovo X1 Carbon
Lenovo is taking time to update its somewhat legendary ThinkPad X1 Carbon.
Taking some of the inspiration from Dell’s excellent XPS series, Lenovo is offering minimum bezels with the X1 Carbon by throwing in a 14-inch FHD/WQHD display in the carbon-fiber body of a 13-inch laptop which is lighter than 2.5lbs. Mil-Spec 810G makes sure the laptop doesn’t scratch or break open easily.
Under the hood, you get Intel’s Core i7 Kaby Lake, up to 16 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD and Intel HD 620. Connectivity options include 2 Thunderbolt 3 Type-C ports, 2 USB 3.0, HDMI, LTE and Ethernet. You also have optional fingerprint and NFC.
Pricing is set at $1399 for the base model.
ThinkPad X1 Tablet
As evident by the name, this offering is a slightly different take on the business laptop category, placing more emphasis on the tablet module, with the keyboard offered as an additional accessory.
The X1 Tablet has a 12-inch QHD IPS display. Underneath sits a Core i7 Kaby Lake processor with up to 16 GB RAM and 1 TB of SSD storage. The tablet has also been tested and certified for normal ruggedness.
At the back sits an 8 MP camera, with a 2 MP camera on the front. Battery life is said to last up to 10 hours. Connectivity options include USB Type-C, USB 3.0, microSD and a nano-SIM slot. Optional accessories also include a 60-inch projector.
Pricing is set at $949 for the base model.
Miix 720
Lastly, the Miix 720 is a potential competitor to the Surface. It has a 12-inch QHD+ (2880 x 1920) resolution with Intel Kaby Lake processor, 16 GB RAM, HD 620 and 1 TB SSD. An integrated kickstand can bend up to 150-degrees, while the design weighs 780grams.
Thunderbolt 3 is onboard, as is Windows Hello-compatible IR camera. The keyboard dock is included in the final price of $999, with a $60 Active Pen 2 sold separately.
