Infinix Launches S2, Its First Phone with Dual Front Cameras

There is no shortage of selfie focused phones these days. From Q Mobile to Oppo, everyone has offerings catering to this particular category. Infinix is here with its own take on the selfie smartphone, the S2.

Dubbed “Selfie + Wefie” it comes with 2 front cameras that allow you to snap wide angle photos. There’s not much to see here aside from the dual front camera setup in an otherwise mid to low end smartphone. It is available for Rs. 18,600.

Design and Display

Up front you get a 5.2 inch IPS 720p (1280 x 720) display flanked by the volume rocker on the left and the power button on the right. The top features the dual front cameras with the earpiece and the IR sensor.

Moving towards the back the top and bottom ends of the phone feature antenna lines, more noticeable in the darker “Chocolate Brown” color. The fingerprint sensor is located underneath the flash which itself is below the primary camera.

The S2’s overall design is quite simple, especially from the front which looks very plain. It does look kind of sleek from the back thanks to the in-line column like arrangement of the camera, flash and fingerprint sensor and the antenna lines.

Internals and Storage

Inside there’s MediaTek’s octa-core MT 6753 SoC powering the phone which is ample for a mid-range phone. You get 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage with the S2 which is low considering similar phones in this price-range. Fortunately a microSD card slot can alleviate your storage problems.

As for the OS you get the latest Android 7.0 Nougat with Infinix’s custom XOS Chameleon skin on top. This gives the S2 an edge over most other mid-range smartphones, still stuck with Android  6.0 Marshmallow.

Camera and Battery

The front has a 13MP camera, which is par for the course at best and you get a LED flash along with HDR and 1080p video capability. The front cameras is where the S2 truly shines with an 8 MP camera duo.

Although other dual camera phones come with bokeh effects or optical zoom, the S2 doesn’t. The wide-angle selfie mode is all you get unfortunately.

There’s a large 3,000 mAh battery unit keeping the lights on for the S2. Paired with a 720p screen and a MediaTek SoC, the S2 could last a day and half on average use.

  • bullshit

Oppo is much better choice than Infinix. I owned oppo f1s recently and i am quite impressed by its camera result, battery and functioning performance. In my opinion it is better than Samsung. (You will agree to me if you are not brand conscious).

    • No I will not “agree to you” because you’re spouting bs. Oppo uses third grade camera sensors in their phones that are nowhere near the quality of Samsung’s. It also costs way more than it has any right to, and offers **** resale value.

    • No, I’m not agree, it’s all your thinking but facts are totally opposite with your thinking.
Samsung is way better in every aspect ratio.
      Resale value
      Camera
      Software quality
      Updates
95% oppo phones are still using lollipop.

  • Bullshit. Xiaomi Redmi 4A 32GB/2GB with SD processor in 14K is much better choice.

    Thanks but No Thanks Infinix

    • Zafar bhai mene honor 8 lite lia hai official warantty me . Aur bad me mje pata chala hai ye telenor band 5 . 850 Mhz suport nai karta. Ab me kia karo ye gair kanoni hai ese set bachna officially

      • Bhai esi liye kehte hyn soch samjh kar cheeze leni chahiye. Pehle specification check kar ke lena tha set. Ab yehi ho sakta hai k esko bech kar Redmi 4A lelo.

      • Trust me, Infinix cameras are not as good as they looked on paper. And remember Redmi 4A has 32GB storage with much less price.

    • 4A is entry level and was never meant for camera-centric operation

i don’t disagree with you but comparing 4A to S2 is absurd

the Note 4 is a better competitor and even if a bit costlier , it has everything better than this phone (save the front cam)

also SD does not meant better CPUs everytime , but this year’s market looks ripe for Qualcomm. MTK will have to step up with their high and mid range stuff or risk losing further orders

      • Except for dual camera, there is is everything lower than Redmi 4A in this handset. With 720P display you are comparing it with Note 4? Although its few bucks cheaper than Note 4 but there are whole lot of differences. Accept it, with this price its a shit phone.

  • over priced ! the dual front cam is a marketing gimmick , if anything

    near the 20k price-mark i’d expect ;

    – a more powerful chipset … that GPU is shambolic ! MT 6750 or a p20 would have been more fitting !
    – ATLEAST 3GB ram , it’s the staple. go take a peek at the chinese
    – FHD screen .. another staple. i’m surprised how cheap and frugal the phone makers act nowadays ! we should be having IGZOs and AMOLEDs by now!
    – 32 GB internal storage

    – i know pixels don’t directly translate into better cameras , but companies like Infinix should take the hint and try to opt for 16 megapixel rear cams if they’re not going for a dual camera on the back ! this is the essence and a very common M.O for brands striving to offer amazing value for money ! (hint : Xiaomi mi max )

all in all , if i had the cash , i’d spend it on something better
