A Careem captain was shot dead yesterday early morning in Rawalpindi by unknown individuals.
While the investigations are underway, early reports said that at least four men in Satellite Town area of Rawalpindi tried to snatch a car from Muhammad Waqas, a Careem Captain.
Eyewitnesses said that four men tried to get hold of car, but while resisting the robbery attemp, Waqas was shot dead by the criminals on the spot.
Careem Pakistan confirmed the incident and said that its offers heartfelt condolences to the Late Captain Muhammad Waqas’ family.
Company said that Muhammad Waqas was off-duty and was out on a personal errand when he lost his life during the unforeseen incident.
“May Allah rest the departed soul and grant strength to his family to bear this irreparable loss. Ameen. We request you all to remember Mr. Waqas and his family in your prayers”, said Careem in a statement issued moments ago.

sharif family’s al-baraq taxi service is effected because of careem & uber but this does not look like conspiracy they have many other ways to tackle them like they issued a notification to ban this service

Careem and uber both are quite good additions to our public transport system. But such incidents are on the rise and they must evolve themselves to ensure security matters. Moreover drivers must have something to protect themselves in such scenarios. Last but not the atleast some sort of insurance or compensation must be there for affectees families… A heavy compensation, after all, this life is very precious and must not go like this….

If he or his vehicle were insured he don’t have to resist and risk his life. And even after the tragedy his family will only suffer emotionally and not financially. Money is no way an alternative of a living soul but one should take steps to ensure his family’s betterment even after his departure. Be realistic.

There is no strict law in Pakistan no safety and security for public, same old thana culture. Careem or Uber should provide life insurance/ car insurance

Lame justification from Company. They are blindly employing partners and getting huge revenues. As far as Captains are concerned, no clear insurance policy or workers welfare benefit exists. Careem/Ubar need to focus on ETHICAL aspects of business also.
The captains are not workers or employees of Careem. They are just using an app and are self employeed.
If someone using Google Maps or Gmail app or Youtube and get killed does’nt mean Google have to give compensation to the family.
Workers working in industries gets protection from Workers Welfare Fund. Children educational assistance, hospital treatment. Company deduct monthly from employee and adding its own share give to WWF org. Daewoo also doing same for their employees. Careem and Uber also need to adopt such model. Its suggestion, Many better solutions exist. Government should also make regulations to control this new business. Captains are representatives of Careem/Uber on the road, they cannot close their eyes on such incidents.
