20 KG of Heroin Recovered from Another PIA Flight

Anti-Narcotics Force along with a special inspection team of PIA has foiled a bid to smuggle 20 kilograms of heroin from a PIA aircraft. The drugs were found on flight PK-785 which was bound from Islamabad to London.

According to a spokesman, a special team of PIA carried out an inspection drive on the directives of Operation Committee constituted by Aviation Deviation. This was done following multiple attempts of smuggling of heroin that were detected in the past few months.

Today, PIA team along with Anti-Narcotics Force carried out the inspection of four aircrafts bound for international flights. They detected heroin from one of those aircraft, which was hidden technically. Due to the inspection process, the London-based flight departed two hours later from its scheduled time from Islamabad.

Both teams have started their investigation into the smuggling case.

Adviser to PM on Aviation , Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan also issued orders for complete investigation of these incidents. He also ordered to trace heroin smugglers and punish them accordingly as soon as possible.

Besides, he further instructed to constitute a team under Hussain Asghar, Additional IG Punjab for pursuing a line of action to unearth these smugglers.

Previously, heroin was also recovered from other international flights in April this year and December 2016, both of them involving PIA . These incidents damaged the reputation of the airline, which is already facing financial and operational woes due to various issues.
