American commercial and combat aircraft manufacturer Boeing has just released its human resource (pilots, technician and cabin crew) forecast for the next 20 years. The company has issued the human resource forecast annually since the last 8 years. Their study is based on the industry’s commercial airplanes fleet growth, as well as the demand of crew to support this growth.
According to the Boeing Pilot and Technician outlook, there will be a demand of 1.2 million pilots and technicians by 2036.
Boeing says that in the next 20 years, the following number of aviation professionals will be in demand:
Their 2017 outlook shows a slight increase of 3.2 percent for pilots over the 2016 outlook. It also shows a slight decrease in the need for airline maintenance technicians by 4.6 percent. This is primarily driven by the reduction in maintenance hours required on the Boeing 737 MAX.
